I understand that it sucks to have to read a book you didn't choose as a kid but when people are like 40 and still going, "well assigned reading turned me off from reading" it's like, ok but you're 40. No one has assigned you a book in like 20 years.

I spent an inordinate amount of time last night trying to figure out how to keep my video card drivers from polling my location several times a day. Dell consented to allowing the app to have access, and for some reason only known to Nadella's pocketbook, there's no easy way to turn that off.

Today's fun was resurrecting a very dead and corrupted Oracle database. I was suspicious it came back quietly once I finally got the pieces together. "You feeling okay?" "I'm good, boss!" "You-you sure? Is there data in there?" "Yup!" "Can I, uh, see it?"

These hero dogs chased off a man who tried to sexually assault two female dog walkers. They were able to push him away, and then their pack of 11 rescue dogs ran him off into a tunnel and ripped off a piece of his pants. The dogs are all getting our highest honor, a 15/10

I'm seeing people doing the "they ban/label us for posting in a bikini, but the ads are THIS?" thing on bluesky too now, and I want to reiterate something I said on tumblr: There is no equivalence in what content standards (if any) apply to ads vs what users post.

Checking through the Deflock map to see if my usual routes hit any known ALPRs I saw a tight cluster of 16 various cameras on a suburban side street.

something that I've sort of realized recently is that basically no jobs anyone works today -- basically nothing -- has any long term impact. we have monuments built by masons 5000 years ago but basically no monument today is going to last that long
