Massive upgrade to Hammer Time - 1W vs. WW is an extremely powerful buff. Back to 4 inkmoth nexus, easier time bursting post-WotS if you get storied earlier but then have to grind back. Real consideration for upcoming RCs imo.

Hot Take? Overlord is a better card than Riddler in the value blink piles in Modern.

All the green 'combo' decks let Phelia run wild and are creature-reliant; relic is just good atm (so much reanimator, emrakul). Could just be leagues being leagues though! 🤷♂️

I really wish Tarkir and Avatar were rotating next year in Standard, especially the latter. Its density of format defining block decks (+cub) is just too much, and I feel like we're not really going to notice the rotation all that much as a result.

Kinda bummed the PT top 8 is draft. Just couldn't get excited to draft Marvel anything, so unless I know someone who top 8s I'll probably skip all the limited rounds. Extra shame because Modern is pretty good right now.

Bugs, Yaoist@bugsmaytrix.bsky.social · 2mo agoi like a few of the marvel designs and it's feeling very hard to be excited about them given the context surrounding wotc & the union, as well as the creep of real world stuff showing up in UB sets. i don't want cops and nazis in magic.
so like lemme weigh in on this as someone who is more financially comfortable than many in my generational cohort: everything I have gained seems precarious and temporary because I know the people with real money will take it all from me the second they get an opportunity and no one will protect me.

Not sure if this was immediately obvious to others, but Violent Outburst is very rough for creature and creature combo decks e.g. Broodscale, Yawg, etc. This is ironic since some of the goals of the B&R have been stated to better enable creature decks in Modern.

WotC (predictably) did not voluntarily recognize the Union. As someone in the languishing games industry myself, its important to take a stand. I know it's asking a lot, but: Boycott Arena until it happens. Hitting them in the metrics and wallet is all that matters.
