So we had an article published in @digitaljournalism.bsky.social ! This works combines Instagram and YouTube data referencing care practices by journalists. Was a pleasure to work with my friend and colleague, A/Prof Diana Bossio on this piece:
ONLINE FIRST! This article by Diana Bossio and Jonathon Hutchinson explores how #professional wellbeing for #socialmedia #journalism can be supported through some of the social infrastructures of online labour. Available with OPEN ACCESS. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

I just wrote my first research analysis app using AI. Itâs good for what I need. I wouldâve previously given that work to an RA for about $2k. I have mixed feelings about this.
I was interviewed about Bluesky, so Iâm sharing it on Bluesky: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Research posts on Bluesky are more original â and get better engagement
Bluesky posts about science garner more likes and reposts than similar ones on X.

Despite the room AV is not functional, CPTâs first panel chair @dhutchman.bsky.social gracefully moderated it and we upheld the #iamcr2025 participatory ethics as much as we can! Watch out that room 53 in Hive may not be functional till later. Ask the helpful volunteers for direction!
As I listen to this plenary session, I'm reminded that climate and environment is only one small part of the work we need to do as scholars. There are clear boundaries between what we do and how journalist and policymakers operate. #IAMCR2025

Super fascinating publication about the disparities of digital literacies in newsrooms in the Middle East and Northern Africa that I've been exposed to in during the #CPT 50 precon at #IAMCR2025 www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1...
I find the hype by fans and activity of the media for #tdf incredibly inappropriate. Can someone give this athlete 5 mins to recover before the Q&A?

Itâs not like the govtâs publicly funded (humanities) experts have been screaming this at you for months. But you now have a private consultant to confirm face recognition wonât wonât for a social media ban. Maybe we need a rethink here @MRowlandMP? www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06...
With six months until teen social media ban, experts don't think tech is viable
Children as young as 15 were repeatedly misidentified as being in their 20s and 30s during government tests of age-checking tools, sowing new doubts about whether the teen social media ban is viable.

International Communication Association Conference â Day 1
After a wonderful plenary last night that provoked us to think about who we are and how we respond, individually and as an association, to the current political environment, Day 1 for me has been a great experience. Much quality scholarship emerging from the Popular Media and Culture, and Children and Media streams. Here's the following notes from the sessions I attended:
