I am so angry today seeing the devastating cuts to my colleagues research funding and their grief at having to give notice to their research teams. Especially upset about cuts to indigenous resilience, flood risk and agrivoltaics work that has so much economic and risk reduction potential :(

At the US National Academy of Sciences meeting this morning, Ukrainian climate scientist, Svitlana Krakovska was elected as an international member. Election to membership in the US NAS recognizes excellence in research and is one of the highest honors a scientist can achieve.

I spent yesterday refreshing items in the Go/camping closet in my house. The last refresh was Mar 2020 prep for Covid. Most food was out of date (bugs in oatmeal) & some key docs (passports, drivers license etc all had renewed since). Washed spare clothes, sleeping bag etc. & checked batteries.

I moved to LA in 1980 to do my PhD on drought. One comps question was on how global warming might affect water, fires and ecosystems in LA and what would reduce the risk. 45 years later I’m horrified by the images of the fires and that rather than stabilize CO2 at 340ppm we are now at 426ppm.
