We spent a couple recent Off the Charts podcasts digging into this stuff as well! Some tidbits: - Less predictable is better for edge rushers - Bull rush is the most common and least effective move - Blocking help from TE/slot is more effective than from the backfield

The evidence isn't definitive, but public defensive metrics (in this case DRS and FRV) having more similar and detailed components does seem to be improving alignment on the value of players. That's happening even without strong alignment on the different component calculations themselves.

One of our goals for this year is to get more research out there, specifically with our injury data. In this case: Pitchers don't really show less pain when they're hit by a batted ball, but they're potentially justified in it because the coaching staff has a quick trigger for checking on them.

Guess I know who I'm rooting for in Celebrity Jeopardy! The site also updates in a few ways during the draft. I love the Draft Matrix that lays out the distribution of talent at all positions according to our scouts. You can see here the remaining players we tabbed with strong starting grades.

As much as I am a stats guy and built much of the backbone of the analytics on this site, this is definitely my favorite part of our draft site. It gives you a texture for the player pool at a glance and gets us thinking more in terms of tiers than ranks.

Every year our Total Points player value system seems to decide on its "guy" that is rated surprisingly well. Bo Nix was its guy in 2024, ranking 6th in passing. Through W9, he was 31st in EPA and 3rd in Total Points. After W9, he was 2nd in EPA and 15th in Total Points. Weird year.
