I would be very cautious about using non-browser tools over Tor right now, before confirming they are updated or rebuilt. For very good privacy reasons, DNS resolution is done at the exit node. But that means a malicious exit node can now trivially swap in malicious IPs for any TLS-secured service.
After the firefighting is done (and a nap) we'll need to have a long, serious conversation about the state of non-browser non-platform X.509 verifiers. The Linux status quo is "a pile of PEM files behind a dumpster" and that's not an acceptable excuse for a root store in 2026.

Ever wondered how to get access to your account in systems where there are no admins? Originally Dark Crystal set out to solve this specific question for P2P infrastructures. The project closed down but made an impact on many but especially for Matt Lorentz who set out to continue on the efforts through Horcrux, an application for recovering secrets. Throughout this conversation we walk through recovery scenarios based on social trust rather than purely math (although it does utilize the algorithm Shamir’s Secret Sharing), the underlying Nostr protocol, challenges with key-based identities and the recently announced 1.0 release of Horcrux! 🎉

Per-transaction processing costs are the problem. We were ready to do it in 2018 on a blockchain-based publishing platform called Civil, but then the market crashed and took our project with it People are right to be wary of blockchain but it could also be used to do a lot of good
