First Nations peoples have cared for the lands & waters of Australia for over 65,000 years. The dispossession of Indigenous land from Indigenous hands is at the core of systemic unsustainable living, environmental degradation & fossil fuel pollution that underpins climate change.

As stressed at the UN & ICJ, business-as-usual propping up the fossil fuel industry is incompatible with the scale & urgency of the climate crisis. The credibility of this moment will be measured with immediate action- Albo can start by actioning a 25% tax on gas exports to fund a just transition.

This global win reflects years of leadership from Vanuatu & the Pacific, youth movements, civil society, First Nations people & frontline communities who refused to accept delay, continue to champion climate leadership, & demanded climate accountability. A win for them is a win for all of us!

For Australia as the third largest exporter of fossil fuels in the WORLD, this is urgent & global wake up call that Albanese must quit bolstering the fossil fuel industry at the expense of our future.

In a landmark win at the UN today, 141 countries including Australia affirmed that every country has a legal obligation to prevent further climate harm and safeguard present and future generations, and that climate harm carries legal consequences.
