Just got this lovely New England themed oracle deck, The Lantern by Laura Tempest Zakroff. This is the first of two decks (1. By Land and 2. By Sea) that I backed on Kickstarter for my birthday, plus some additional swag that came with the pledge.

A green cloth for use with oracle readings. On top of it is a deck of New England themed oracle cards, as well as the box, guidebook, a blue cloth for the upcoming deck, a coin, bookmark, and stickers. Some cards are scattered face up: Needlepoint Sampler, Covered Bridge, Spite House, Three Sisters, Coffee Milk, Puckwudgie, Mountain Laurel, and Where it used to be

Several people at the farmers market today complimented our full market basket for looking very French (the basket itself is from a basket weaver at a market in Toulouse, so it is definitely very French). So here it is, plus this week’s lovely bouquet.

You know I absolutely love spooky season, but I feel like there’s something weird and possibly ominous about how early Halloween stuff is happening this year. I’ve seen videos popping up in my feed, people arguing about decorations on socials, even Reese’s pumpkins in the store already.

I’m very happy to report that Hokum (2026) is very good. It slots in very nicely with Damian McCarthy’s other work (Caveat, Oddity), so, if you liked those, you’ll probably enjoy this as well.

When we saw the first movie in the theater, there was a guy behind us quietly repeating ‘Oh, shit!’ over and over every time it got scary. At this performance there was a guy next to us doing basically the same thing (except with less profanity, presumably because live theater is more pretentious).

This afternoon we went to see Paranormal Activity, the play! It was a lot of fun, with great acting, lighting, sound design, and effects. It’s not a direct adaptation of any of the films, but an original story that references the series.

I read about someone who is watching the live action Avatar (the Last Airbender) tv show, but has never seen the animated original, and I was like that’s the worst thing ever; but no, it actually could be worse, because at least they’re not watching the movie.

Was going to make broccoli slaw for dinner, but I guess it’ll be roasted broccoli slaw to avoid possible parasitic consequences. Meanwhile, outside it’s hot and yellow, so it’s extra annoying that I have to run the oven.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with Hank Green’s Smush, which is a daily puzzle similar to NYT’s Spelling Bee, but there’s a limited number of times you can use each letter, so it’s finite, and involves some strategy.
