As men who rape children hide the Epstein files from us illegally, why not spend some time talking about how many women are in prison for killing their abusers & rapists? How must it feel as a victim of trafficking and rape to see America elect a rapist as POTUS? I couldn't put this book down.
"That was often the way it went: The women took it, and took it, and then, one day, they didn’t. They resisted." This month's Flytrap book excerpt is from Unreasonable Women by @justinevdl.bsky.social, who reports on her work surveying over 1,000 women criminalized for surviving assault and abuse.

I had so much fun working on all of the little details and easter eggs for this @theflytrapmedia.com illustration! Go read @sesmith.lol's amazing piece about the wild world of special edition books! 💖
This week, @sesmith.lol wrote about how some books get deluxe multiple special edition treatment and what that says about publisher priorities. Art by @meowwwls.bsky.social!
This is a bad sign imo. My parents were hugely involved in the indie comics boom of the late 90’s early 2000’s and special edition collectors covers becoming a bigger and bigger part of their publishers income was a foreboding sign that they were appealing to a dedicated but shrinking fan base.

This is a piece I really enjoyed thinking about and working on—I absolutely love this kind of books culture features. And given that The Flytrap is, sadly, not my full-time job, I would be DELIGHTED to hear from culture editors looking for more like this, esp. on a column basis. ~ manifesting ~

I'm in @theflytrapmedia.com this morning talking about one of my favorite topics: The explosive growth in special edition books, books as aesthetic, and what publishers choose to invest in. Threading some related reads I enjoyed too because a lot of people are talking about this.
