Wrote a huge thing about reality TV one time. Feed SFW visually but definitely not mentally.

It's crazy how many of the things listed in We Didn't Start the Fire are, in fact, things the United States was in some way responsible for starting. And almost all of the rest can be summarised as "change of political leadership in another country".

Taking a day of sick leave (migraine after short staffing on a VERY busy weekend). Stupid app work forces us to use broke the rostering a few weeks ago and their solution was to switch accounts but the new one doesn't have a button to apply for leave. Fuck this shit I'm going back to bed.

Look, I've had to deal with literally hundreds of American tourists the last couple of days because of the NFL thing, and I'd just like to thank those lovely Scottish fans from the World Cup once again for teaching people how not to be cunts in somebody else's country. They've been delights.

The cast for next year's Australian Survivor is out and... look, even aside from being stuffed with people from other shows who weren't fun enough the first time to get on The Traitors, I can't believe it's 2026 and Ten still insists on demoting women to "diva" and "power mum" archetypes. DO BETTER.

Told a coworker last week I was thinking of getting back into puzzles as a self-care thing. Turns out logic puzzles were her lockdown hobby. Today I turned up and found a printout of a single logic puzzle that's SEVENTEEN PAGES LONG. Terrified just looking at it. This is just the last two pages:

Photo of two A4 pages, showing a big long grid filled with symbols passing down the left sides of each page and patches of rules and example diagrams on the right hand sides.

Today's edition of Toxic Workplace Fuckery: Found out a beloved former employee (left ~3 months ago) had to turn off her husband's life support over the weekend after he had a massive stroke. CEO is refusing to send flowers because "it sets a bad precedent". What, that we actually care about people?

I don't want to say work doesn't pay me enough for what I do, but today I had to deal with a customer who had order #32 and for some reason cracked the absolute metric shits with us because he expected "Order Thirty-Second" and not "Order 32". Then had to be told 32 and 33 are different numbers.

If you're wondering if sport can possibly be any more blatantly corrupt than the last World Cup was: the new King of Norway lit the cauldron at the Lillehammer Winter Olympics in 1994. Apparently there were no accomplished winter athletes in Norway?

Harald V Glücksburg, King of Norway, has died. He has been succeeded by his heir apparent, Haakon. I'd love to give you more information but Haakon's English Wikipedia page is currently inaccessible.

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

Coworker tried whining to me about something irrelevant while I was in the middle of another time-sensitive job. Politely told her I was trying to focus so I wasn't really listening and OH BOY that was the wrong thing to say. Fucking boomers, man.

In 2009, NBC aired a forgettable reality show with the same title, which rated so terribly it was moved from its timeslot immediately after the premiere. That premiere got 932 times as many viewers as all six episodes of this show COMBINED.

Nobody is watching Sean Duffy’s Great American Road Trip show, which he filmed with his family over the course of 7 months. The 6 episodes of the YouTube show have a total of just over 5K views combined after 24 hours. meidasnews.com/news/nobodys...
