Sunrise in the kayak... what I did with my extra hour! 20 minutes between the 3 pictures. Can't believe it's still a relatively comfortable temp (for WI) to still be in my kayak. Might be all we see of the sun today.

I do a little work with teachers and the Library of Congress - in looking around for some resources this morning I stumbled upon this video explaining WW2 Food Rationing. It is stunning how unlikely something like this would work today. #sschat www.nps.gov/media/video/...

I also do this series 4 the LOC posts abt taking apart a random Front Page of an old newspaper. I've been recently interested in how much social media is 'present' in these pages - could be an interesting class disc. For ex, I bring you Challis, ID 1902 #sschat #edusky www.loc.gov/resource/sn8...

I'm working on a post for my small gig w/ the LOC looking up teaching machines in Chronicling America. This stuff cracks me up, how the rhetoric hasn't really changed (I know @audreywatters.bsky.social already figured all this out) but it's fun to go get it out of the hist. record myself. #edusky
I call this weather ominously comfortable... Three straight days in the 80s, in the middle of Oct in WI. Taking advantage!
A rural electric cooperative provides the power to my house. My Oct. bill was *way* too low, 40% low, which was weird. I went to the bill & realized that I've been here long enough to get Capital credits - a refund 4 unused funds (from a previous service yr). Here's to being part of a cooperative!

Visiting classrooms at SLA-MS today... There is just something about a Philly classroom that you don't necessarily get elsewhere. It's somewhere in the alchemy of diversity, personality, energy. Helping to build this place will forever be one of my favorite things. #edusky

Topics that seem to be transcending right/left; liberal/conservative reactions - flock cameras and data centers.
Random realization - I use 'find' (cmd/ctr F) all the time - lost something in a document, looking for a reference on a page, jump to a place in a long document... blah, blah, blah. Last week I worked with three different people who didn't know about 'find'. Was I having a weird week or?

I used to make a similar comment abt farmers/farms being our original makers and makerspaces. Add in the river trips that I was lucky enough to organize over the years for students & I 100% cosign this sentiment from John Spencer. The Best Makerspace Might Be Outside spencereducation.com/biomimcry/
This time of year when I'm not working, I'm generally outside and sometimes I also work on my computer outside. Today is the Summer Solstice and we got an absolute stunning sunset. Don't waste all that sunlight and comfortable temps, Wisconsin!
Grades continue to flummox folks - at it core , this is problematic - if a student learns the requisite information, evidences that at a high level of expertise but happens to be in a particularly high achieving group, they get a lower grade? Good luck with that!
