Belfast has had problems with femicide and other violence against women for years, committed by local men that I'm sure were known in their communities. Where was the outrage then? Don't believe for one second these riots are about anything other than racism and anti-immigrant sentiment.

Wasn't able to apply for a couple of jobs I wanted because I didn't meet the eligibility requirements, but I did get yelled at while feeding birds with a friend in the park this morning, so I guess that's something. For context, I live in Germany.
This is a great one from @unbiasthenews.bsky.social As a white person from the American South who now lives in Germany, I've been very surprised by how much pushback (even in what people would call progressive circles) there is to talking about racism here. unbiasthenews.org/if-you-point...
If you point out racism in Germany, prepare for retaliation: just ask our editor - Unbias The News
A pattern of retaliation and reversal of victim and perpetrator roles is degrading trust in the German legal system. The latest example strikes close to home, against our editor Wafaa Albadry.

I did to not know that Heathcliff is supposed to be a racialized other in Wuthering Heights! I would've read it a lot sooner if I knew we were delving into all this race and class stuff. So . . . why do we have Jacob Elordi playing him in the Emerald Fennell adaptation?
I'm finally getting around to reading Wuthering Heights because I want to weigh in on the new adaptation. Emerald Fennell's other films bothered me, particularly given her (very) wealthy background. Am I just now reading Wuthering Heights because I'm being a bit of a hater? Maybe! And what of it?
