"High street giant Boots, which has 65 stores in Northern Ireland, is to be bought by the Canadian branch of the billionaire Weston family for $8.9bn (£6.7bn)." [Belfast Telegraph]

Renewable generation and discharging storage equalled 43% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 69% at 14:45. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 42% of demand. 1% of generation was exported, 15% of demand was met by imports.

A stacked area chart of the electricity generation mix on the island of Ireland with the following fuel types: battery, pumped storage, biomass, waste-to-energy, hydro, solar, wind, oil, and gas. There is also a black line showing electricity demand.

Footnote reads: All-island figures. Excludes rooftop solar. Source: EirGrid, SEMO

Alex is far from the only British commentator who plainly believes e.g. the destruction of the Gaza Strip and the ethnic cleansing of southern Lebanon are a valiant battle by regrettably fascist white heroes against the black horde of Mordor. But how did this wildly extreme position become dominant?

Massie with the shocking news here that Palestinians have been importing the Israel/Palestine conflict to Britain, and that Palestinians are targeting Israelis on the streets of Britain.

A classic example of how playing the 'both sides' card is a means of avoiding, or even denying, obvious truths.
"We can never allow conflict overseas to divide us at home", Khan says.
But only one side imports the conflict here.
Only one side targets the other on British streets every week.
The two sides are not, in fact, the same. x.com/ mayoroflondon/...

My statement on the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.

This is not a real person! There are THIRTY TWO books here that 'Andrew V. Smith' has shat out in the last year alone, all of which have AI-generated covers and most borrow or straight up rip off titles from other more popular (and more importantly: human) works like my own

Sometimes feels like the State pulls this shit only to piss off the public I dunno anyone who thinks greyhound racing should be a thing. We're one of the few countries in Europe who hasn't banned. And they've given them MORE fucking money over the last few years The disconnect is palpable

Horse and greyhound fund up €3m in the budget, up to €102m - split €81.6m horseracing, €20.4m greyhound racing. In 2020, the fund stood at €84m, so it's gone up 21% over the past six years...

Yeah, that's right, good point :-/ And on that front, actually, things have got worse. One of the few big (non-housing) projects for the council's North West Area (Finglas-Ballymun, basically) seems to have stalled out.

Delay to Finglas improvement scheme, as officials scratch around for top-up funding

Changes to the timeline are particularly sensitive because of wider concerns about a lack of council investment in the north-west of the city.

there are about 4,000 schools in the state, primary and secondary with €102 million, you'd have €25,000 each – i'm pretty sure you could put solar panels on every single school in the country for that much instead of funding gambling on sports rife with animal cruelty
