For the first time, Ireland generated more electricity from renewable sources than fossil fuels in the first half of the year 🍃 The chart below makes the trend clear. Will 2026 be the first year with majority clean energy? We at Green Collective hope to be the first to report it!

Renewable generation and discharging storage equalled 33% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 61% at 23:45. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 55% of demand. 0% of generation was exported, 12% of demand was met by imports.

Ballymoneen Solar Farm in Galway turned things up last month, helping make July 2026 the best month yet for Irish solar. 275GWh from all solar farms was enough to meet 8.4% of the island's electricity demand -- with a momentary peak of 33.4% in the early afternoon of Sunday, July 19th. ☀️ 🏭️

Yes, Carlow! Garrenleen Solar Farm has started reaching 30MW during July ☀️ It has a planned final size of 160MW, making it one of several new-ish solar farms whose final output will *each* exceed that of the current largest, Meath's Gallanstown (120MW).

Ireland seems to have again broken the record for percentage solar electricity today 33.4% of demand covered by Solar farms. When domestic (50%+ of farms) and Imported solar are added we likely broke 50% solar. Data and visuals from @greencollective.io
