It’s a dark day for research in Aotearoa New Zealand and the ramifications for the country are huge. Minister Judith Collins has just announced our blue-skies funder will no longer fund humanities & social science research and that 50% of what is funded must have economic benefit.

I'm thrilled this news is out! The Committee for the Translations of Classical Authors hopes this award will demonstrate that translation matters (and should count!) in Classics. Inaugural judges are Sarah Ruden, Deborah Roberts, and Adrienne Rose. Please share! classicalstudies.org/awards-and-f...

My main gripe here is that my feed gets dominated by individuals in a way that was filtered out due to the algorithm in prior lands. Any tips? It seams threads don’t get filed underneath the first tweet but in live tweeting I see every one separately…

Made the excuse that I was just going to the toilet and would be right back during the kids’ bedtime to try and give them a chance to fall asleep by themselves. Took myself to the couch to scroll socials only to be sprung by the 4yo who asked why I lied 😟

One final Brisbane/QLD question from this newbie - when does swooping season end?! There are miners enacting a reign of terror on the corner of my street and I start each day terrified of the cycle into work (often with my kids on the back of the bike too!) 😳😱

Another QLD question for you all - do I need to go to a specialist skin cancer clinic for an annual skin check or do GPs do this? Figure I need to get on top of these now I live in Brisbane 😬

Do houses in QLD and/or houses with floorboards produce more dust, or did I just live in invisible filth in my carpeted UK home? Feels like I’m constantly hoovering here 😩

Ah, that small window of time where I have a social media account that my mum hasn’t yet discovered and followed me on 😆. 35 and with nothing to share that she doesn’t know/would care about but it still feels 🔥

Shoutout to all the other caters who started their morning with a book week meltdown. Was I unreasonable for refusing to do face-paint cat ears on the pre-schooler’s forehead when she was already wearing a cat-ear headband? You be the judge.
