Thread. Note the exception of England, where test scores remained more or less stable. That’s about the peculiarly English obsession with teaching to the test, no doubt. But it’s also important to note England was the one country that stuck to established teaching methods in the 2010s.
Two extraordinary charts from today’s PISA test results: 1) School test scores continue to collapse internationally, underscoring how this is no longer a Covid effect but sustained decline. Those falls in reading and maths are equivalent to about two years of lost schooling.
I think the worst part of Labour's response to the fascist mobilisation is Andy Burnham's absence. He's the most popular politician in the country, with social media reach and actual powers of persuasion, and he's saying nothing in public. He can actually be of use here but he's choosing not to
The BBC bothsiding a fascist street thug gathering is very 21st century, though
What a ridiculous question. Once again the BBC drives a nail into it's own coffin.
@ stephenkb.bsky.social hitting the nail on the head of course. "the Labour Party has now produced two governments whose response to acts of thuggery and intimidation is to reiterate that perhaps the thugs have a point" - as.ft.com/r/97d33f08-a...
Labour’s muddled migration policy won’t stop thuggery
A government that can’t distinguish between ‘legitimate concerns’ and open racism is only making things worse

In honor of Uber shutting down in Nigeria this week, here’s my favorite story about Uber in Nigeria.
Another round of "brilliant" negotiations is completed. The only difference this time is that Witkoff and Kushner came to deliver Putin's demands personally after kissing his boot in the Kremlin. We are on, what, 9th circle of this cycle? 1,5 years wasted and countless lives.
People don't watch the news anymore. If it doesn't come at them through their socials, they don't know about it. Burnham has worked this out with his regular reels.
Britons tend to feel the masked demonstrations over the weekend were not a legitimate way of protesting, by 38% to 31% Note: Only a minority of the public report following the news closely
Cowardice dressed up as constitutional propriety
Asked if the Government considers the masked thugs swarming British ports “far right” Andy Burnham’s spokesman replies that “it's an operational matter for the police to set out their response to the protests on the ground. So I will leave them to respond to that.”

The German postwar order was based on the mission to prevent exactly this moment. It has clearly failed.

Mine is Richard II. For sheer drama, and for the John of Gaunt monologue (“this other Eden…”). No Churchill without it.
My favourite so far is easily Richard III. Midsummer Night's Dream was just potty. Not my thing.
