they already have. the trend will continue. it's pretty rare that I look at an open source library and think "wow, this thing is amazing!". it happens, but it's rare now, for the things I have deep knowledge of but didn't have time to build, I can DIY it way better than what existed before

Ryan@snarfed.org · 2d agoMuch of my career boils down to: All code is liability. Minimize it. Feedback loops are everywhere. Speed them up; do them more. We're bad at predicting the future. Avoid it. More tests. Hire smart, motivated people, then get out of their way. Find the right thing to turn off and on again.

random atproto sync notes - for whole-network backfill, you have to spread your `getRepo` requests across PDS hosts to get reasonable throughput, so it's a scheduling problem. it's also a spec-SHOULD to make these requests directly to your upstream (not PDSes directly) and follow its redirects.
