I’m a nerd who writes about comics often as I can for The New York Times.
I have an essay that was just published as part of our Race/Related newsletter. It includes a shout out to Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez who came thisclose this morning to proving I'm capable of human emotion. Don't ever do that again, Edgardo! Nunca mas! www.nytimes.com/2025/10/17/u...
I feel I’m having a mini-comic con this week! @phillipkjohnson.bsky.social and his wonderful family were in NYC and I got to meet up with them today. Up, up and away!
I love you, print! My piece on the journalistic ethics of Clark and Lois hit the paper today. #Superman
To me, my nerds! Do I know folks who primarily buy digital comics? How were you impacted by Amazon taking over Comixology and the changes that came in its wake? I remember there was a big outcry 2 years ago. I’m wondering if there were any improvements or if folks have other options. Thanks!
I purchased my first original art cover! By the tremendously talented @yanickpaquette.bsky.social who said I partially inspired it. Also note Clark’s notepad: “Call George.” Many thanks, Yanick!
To me, my LSH nerds! I seem to recall an ad for a 30th century beer — Klordny? — during the 5YL run. Am I nuts? Anyone know what issue?
Well, hello there @kurtbusiek Just ran into this while checking out issues of the FF drawn by George Perez. I love that the Marvel app includes some letter pages and house ads.
Happy 30th birthday to my first byline in the NYT! I could not have done it without my colleague Michael Cooper, who showed me how to put the piece together. The clip and the photo (from 12/94) are in a frame at the Gustines compound.
My appearance in Daredevil is 7! Many thanks to @charlessoule.bsky.social and Stefano Landini. Happy to say I own the spread these panels were on!
Identity Crisis II: Who tried to kill Apache Chief? Thank you and you’re welcome @bradmeltzer.bsky.social
Re Superman & Lois series finale: I’m not crying; YOU’RE crying. Bravo!
Justice League Unlimited No. 1 — out tomorrow — by @markwaid.bsky.social and Dan Mora & @tamrabonvillain.bsky.social is all kinds of excellent. I never realized this was the JLA I wanted. Also: Dan Mora should draw a Who’s Who 2025 so we get his amazing take on everyone.
The latest Kryptonian fashion. My fellow jurors already know I’m a geek thanks to my wearing a couple of Christmas sweaters but this will cement it tomorrow.
“More pudge than muscle” was my nickname in elementary school. And junior high. And high school. And … I vaguely remember toy versions of these “Super Jrs.” The DC Style Guide is a delight!
I don’t know when I first heard of this gem, but I’ve been dying to get it in my hands. I got to see a real copy when I visited Paul Levitz once for a story many years back. #NerdGoals
I don’t think I ever shared my bio comic with @tonywolfness.bsky.social that was published in @thebeliever.bsky.social this year. I’ve been trying to write new chapters/essays in between my other work. You can read this one here: www.thebeliever.net/i-was-a-teen...
Me remembering how much fun it was to interact with comic creators on Twitter. I’m going to give Bluesky another whirl only because I find engagement a little difficult on Instagram. (I’m still on FB too.)
I started my side hustle — writing about comics for @nytimes.com — 22 years ago! It was my 20th byline/signer. Today I’m at 859!
C’mon, Supes, I know crazy pink beams are raining down on Metroplis, but can you please, please, please smile?
I picked up my art from Action 1000 by @jerryordway.bsky.social The page I’m holding has me in panel three. I don’t have the words to describe how insanely beautiful and detailed Jerry’s original art is. Truly stunning.
This is a treat I picked up for myself at NYCC. There was at least one other shirt — a Flash blur — that seemed to be Darwyn Cooke art.
Two years ago today, I got to write about Jonathan Kent coming out. The story was written by @tomtaylormade.bsky.social — who I got to meet today. Growing up, a gay superhero seemed impossible, so being able to write about Jonathan — a Superman! — was a tremendous honor. Many thanks, Tom.
Please check out my roundup of some spine tingling comics! Read it here: www.nytimes.com/2023/10/11/a...?
