Covid infection levels in England are continuing to rise as we move into the autumn. With 1 in every 675 people in England infected as of 6 September, the BuDS overall Covid risk level remains Moderate, but is now approaching Moderately High. A thread 🧵

Covid levels in England continue to rise.
Risk level remains Moderate at 1 in 675.
Precautions recommended in all but lower-risk indoor places.

Yet still pro-graded exercise therapy, pro-CBT attitudes are still to be found among medical professionals who really should know better. Some powerful people really seem to want conditions like ME/CFS, Long Covid, etc to be psychological, due to lack of exercise, etc. They aren't.

10 years today, after a David vs Goliath FOI legal battle that damaged Alem Mathees, White et al were forced to release data from PACETrial (that cost UK taxpayers £5M) showing graded exercise therapy & CBT didn’t lead to an increased recovery rate for CFS. Abstract

Background: The PACE trial was a well-powered randomised trial designed to examine the efficacy of graded exercise therapy (GET) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for chronic fatigue syndrome. Reports concluded that both treatments were moderately effective, each leading to recovery in over a fifth of patients. However, the reported analyses did not consistently follow the procedures set out in the published protocol, and it is unclear whether the conclusions are fully justified by the evidence.

Methods: Here, we present results based on the original protocol-specified procedures. Data from a recent Freedom of Information request enabled us to closely approximate these procedures. We also evaluate the conclusions from the trial as a whole.

Another study showing exercise and fitness is completely unrelated to whether you are susceptible to long cd. Impotrant to prove - Can we move on now?

With three wildfires in Edinburgh over the last year alone, big inner city fires in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and more across Scotland & the UK, it's becoming more and more important to clean air indoors - get in touch with us if you want to borrow a purifier or help buying or building your own!

It's worth getting hold of a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filtration unit or two if affected by smoke indoors. They filter out harmful smoke particles & as a bonus also other harmful particles, airborne allergens & infections. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Please can anyone explain why ever-reducing vaccine eligibility despite in the absence of ever-reducing risk is morally acceptable or economically justifiable, when the public cost of vaccinating is very likely to be less than the public cost of health needs arising due to not vaccinating.

🚨TODAY, the UK removed people aged 75–79 from routine Covid vaccine eligibility. While countries like Canada continue offering vaccines to higher-risk groups, the UK keeps narrowing access. Policy choices have consequences! #ClinicallyVulnerableAwarenessDay <19th July>

Well, it won't be great for wheelchair users and many others with mobility impairments! Is it in breach of the Equality Act 2010? Can we have 'reasonable adjustments'?

NHS to reward people who walk 30 minutes a day

Image of people walking

Getting your steps in has long been linked to better health - and for the first time the NHS-backed scheme will start giving people rewards for doing exercise.

Early next year, NHS England will launch a "marathon a month" challenge, asking people to walk for around 30 minutes a day.

Those who do it every day will hit roughly 26 miles a month - the distance of a marathon.

Users will be able to log their walks online, or through their phone or smartwatch.

I and @independentsage.bsky.social advocated kids vax vs SARS2 since day 1. Even when transiently available to u12s, they were sold as a damp squib by those in authority. As vax coverage dwindles, the lack of foresight gets harder to reconcile. #LongCovidKids is a major neglected issue 💔

BA.3.2 - a "forever" variant? I've always wondered why BA.3.2 has persisted for such a long time. Now we know that it mainly targets the 0-4-year age group, and we know why. Could that explain its persistence?
