In an effort to get more steps I have combined two hobbies: walking and coin collecting. You’d be surprised how many coins are just laying around in parking lots. However, the issue is now trying to explain why I’m wandering around the parking lots at work…just trying to be healthier!

Couldn’t agree more. The skill that will last any student the longest is being able to solve problems and adapt to new information. We must also remember that billion dollar industries exist to prey on people without critical thinking skills.

My pedagogical philosophy begins with the premise that I am helping students become better thinkers than they were before and that doing this effectively will best prepare them for whatever life throws at them, intellectually, economically, and otherwise.

Just learned that Tanyrhinichthys, a fish I re-described (with Lauren Sallan, JP Hodnett, and Spencer Lucas) is available in Minecraft with the Prehistoric Nature mod. This is perhaps the greatest honor of my career.

Lecture today on the history of evolutionary thought and sadly the history of scientific racism, and how it’s deeply intertwined with the science. It really broke my heart to have to explain that the same evil ideas are still championed today, albeit in (barely) disguise.
