Colin Wright is a deeply evil person yes. He is also terrible at science and lacks a basic understanding of biology. I sincerely doubt the man can distinguish a spider from his own right hand.

In an effort to get more steps I have combined two hobbies: walking and coin collecting. You’d be surprised how many coins are just laying around in parking lots. However, the issue is now trying to explain why I’m wandering around the parking lots at work…just trying to be healthier!
Couldn’t agree more. The skill that will last any student the longest is being able to solve problems and adapt to new information. We must also remember that billion dollar industries exist to prey on people without critical thinking skills.

Your pencil sees more than your eyes. The process of illustrating an animal is critical to understanding it.
Andy Farke@andyfarke.bsky.social · 2w agoAlso, having done some simple illustrations and worked with illustrators myself, the *process* of illustrating new taxa often reveals important data for the underlying science, and helps clarify the writing process. What matters/what doesn't is an important decision in illustration.
Just learned that Tanyrhinichthys, a fish I re-described (with Lauren Sallan, JP Hodnett, and Spencer Lucas) is available in Minecraft with the Prehistoric Nature mod. This is perhaps the greatest honor of my career.

When someone publishes a paper re-inventing taxonomic practice that has existed since the 1940’s.
Being a fish paleontologist is fun because I get to say things like "most of these animals were described before computers were invented"
Lecture today on the history of evolutionary thought and sadly the history of scientific racism, and how it’s deeply intertwined with the science. It really broke my heart to have to explain that the same evil ideas are still championed today, albeit in (barely) disguise.
