To recap: humans have done war for a long time and we developed both biological and cultural adaptations for it. Those adaptations, when placed in a modern society, make us vulnerable to fascism - they are MAL-adaptive in modernity. Consequently, we must guard against this vulnerability.
I argue that the human tendency towards xenophobia, domination-politics and violence (to be clear, alongside our tendencies towards cooperation and altruism - we are complex!) comes from our long history of warfare. So let's talk about the evidence for how long that history is.
Ah, only 13,400BP? Except the evidence for human cannibalism goes back at lot further than this. When small communities of neanderthals and anatomically modern humans were hunting each other in groups, are we supposing that isn't war?
I think the far more parsimonious answer here is that warfare evolved among some (not all, of course!) near human primates and that humans picked it up there, which is why we see the same behavior in chimpanzees and humans - it's just really hard to detect in the paleolithic, as most things are.
My issue here is that we have warfare observed in near human primates (Chimpanzees) and in human communities very early on and you're asking me to think the most parsimonious answer is that humans independently re-developed something chimps do c. 13,000 years ago? I don't think that works.
Now we have changed our environment: industrialization, trade, liberalism, democracy - all 'software' that makes us more prosperous but also which rewards cooperation and peaceful competition. War, conquest, ethnic cleansing, genocide: these are now *losing* strategies.
Farming brought - slowly - states, which existed to channel that violence outward, allowing for larger, more complex, more diverse societies that were better at conquest and exploitation. But early states were still mostly violence machines that praised and rewarded butchery.
Fascism (which sucks) strikes us as aberrant *because* we are so modern. But wanting a strong leader to suppress minorities and lead your tribe in a brutal war in which you enslave or massacre your neighbors and take their resources - that was the DEFAULT mode of most polities before modernity.
