I confess I too sometimes have an “abstract” interest in “ideas about the kind of society I am going to live in.”

Jeez, I am not a Tik Tok fan. I know I'm old, but I'm pretty sure my brain shrinks and shrivels a little bit every time I see that site. So much squiggling and screen static and frantic movement in the corner of your gaze. No. That is not for me. I can't imagine it's good for anyone's brain, really.
They should have one of those airport conveyer walkways straight from Trump's corrupt White House to Fox News. They could have an automatic cash dispensing machine on the way.
The move no one could see coming: Fox has hired Karoline Levitt. 🙄 Gift link. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/b...
There’s good news out there, but you have to look for it.
I do read the comments and reviews of my books and movies, even the negative ones. Some of them are pretty hilarious.
Have there ever been bigger pieces of shit than today’s republicans?
Fuuuuuuuuuck Elon Musk. My health care provider saves lives. That superrich weirdo can go fuck himself. How does anybody still like this guy?
This Wednesday, Elon Musk called for the death sentence for transgender youth care providers. It was in reply to a post calling for full criminalization of all gender-affirming surgery. Musk is becoming even more radicalized in targeting trans people. Subscribe to support our journalism.
Seconding. Finally got around to this one earlier this year. Gemma is among the very best of us.
Whoa wow WOW - deeply personal, deeply TO (but not smug-like) @gemmafiles.bsky.social is a crazy good meta-fic story centered on Cnd film cults, silver nitrate, forgotten goddesses, BUT also gets heavy into parenting whilst damaged. Thrilling, scary, ominous, great on every front, thanks so much!
These little assholes. Stink bugs. Twice a year, we get nailed by seasonal swarms of them—trying to get in the house or out of the house. They don’t bite, but are super annoying and big. And we live in the woods, so there’s tons of them. We pulled 20 or so from our bedroom curtains last week.
When I briefly met Harlan Ellison a million years ago, he was signing books in a university bookstore. I asked him what he was going to do that night. “Sit in my hotel room and stare at the wall,” he said.
Oh good. I have complete faith in these tech overlords to do what’s right for American society and the planet as a whole. I mean, they’ve given me zero reason to doubt them. At this weird intersection of delusional billionaires, Republican greed, and epoch-ending technology, I feel very confident.
Stanley Kubrick and his longtime driver, Emilio D’Allessandro. They became great friends, and Emilio’s book STANLEY AND ME shows a different side to the director. Emilio liked cars and wasn’t much of a film buff, and never even saw Stanley’s movies until much later. They were just pals.
I like book’s. What about you? What are some of you’re favorite book’s?

Asheville’s next mayor, y’all!
As residents of a mountain home with lots of amazing wildlife, we have a role to play in limiting bear and human interactions. Do not feed the bears! Staying bear wise is part of being a good neighbor to humans and bears, and being #MountainStrong!
Maybe it’s, you know, not a phase? 🤷🏼♀️ Let kids be kids. You don’t own them. They own themselves. A parents’ job is to help usher a young human soul into a happy adulthood as effectively as possible. Not to change them, not to fix them. You are a steward, helping someone to find their rightful place.
This whole article is so bleak. Maybe try accepting your kid for who they are?
This is good advice. It’s not Trump. It goes deeper than Trump.
Living with a dietitian wife is not only like, “Holy crap, you’re not eating that!” but also like, “Holy crap, look at all the protein in your urine! Your creatinine levels are probably insane!” And then sashaying out of the bathroom while I have nightmares about little creatinines coming to get me.
My kid's in Arizona, and my wife and I are enjoying his Mexican food journey with vicarious relish. He said this place was super cheap, super authentic, and super meaty. Which would be a problem for us, granted. But we can still gaze at it in quiet, covetous wonder.
Ah yes, like the evil clown Pennywise but with less panache, Jill Stein reappears every few years, doing her damage in cycles.
Working on my Strat today. I like tinkering around with my guitars. In another lifetime, I could have been a luthier. I just like looking at them. But Leo Fender nailed it. I mostly play Tele’s, but the Strat is truly a perfect guitar. The most expressive musical instrument ever invented.
Argiope aurantia. The garden spider. Big, dramatic beautiful webs. Almost always a female. And yep, there’s the crushed and disarrayed corpse of her boyfriend. These girls don’t play. But they’re completely harmless to humans. They’re our friends, but you don’t want to run into her face first.
