Pro Tip: If a book isn't delivering value by page 50, put it down. Life is too short to finish mediocre books just for the sake of "completion” #Productivity #Learning #ReadingTips #NonFiction #PersonalDevelopment #ContinuousLearning
From now on, I’ll be active on Bluesky. I was active on Twitter, but I realized that it made me anxious. People lie constantly there, and interestingly, they are even appreciated. Their algorithm only cares about money.
We urgently need to overhaul our academic reward systems to incentivize impactful research that addresses real-world issues like digital health literacy, AI in education, or support for first-generation students, rather than just rewarding publication volume. #HigherEd #MachineLearning
Happening this morning! We are going to normalize the research struggles that you don’t always hear about but that happen all the time! #AERA26
On Friday from 11:45-1:15, join me in Westin Bonaventure, Lobby Level, Beaudry B, for a 🔥🔥🔥 symposium called "Here's The Real Story: Transparent Discussion about Struggles that Underlie Successful Research," organized by @yinchen.bsky.social, Kori Nicolai, and Emily Rosenzweig. Looks so so good!!

"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our country is currently bending away from justice, and the harmful consequences of this are real and significant (see thread below). Our moral arc will not bend back until we pull it ourselves.
Anyone still trying to make the case for the importance of keeping cultural centers and other DEI initiatives on their campus? Sapna Cheryan and I wrote a piece on this for the Purdue Exponent - please share it with others if helpful: www.purdueexponent.org/opinion/lett...
@tjroyuh.bsky.social made an infographic about what researchers need to know about grit in terms of measurement and validity debates:

Happy #CSEdWeek! So far this week I’ve shared videos, op-eds, and infographics about our lab’s research on gender equity in CS. Today I want to share the research itself! Data lovers, rejoice—today is your day! (1/14) #WomeninSTEM #AcademicSky #PsychSciSky #DevPsychSky #SocialPsyc #EduSky #CompSky
In today's Achievement Motivation seminar, we had the pleasure of a visit from Dr. Avi Kaplan, who told us how he developed the Dynamic Systems Model of Role Identity. @aera-motsig.bsky.social @summerrobinson.bsky.social @tjroyuh.bsky.social
We talked about control-value theory today in Achievement Motivation, so we brought back this art activity (see thread below). @summerrobinson.bsky.social's "Yay! Motivation!" drawing took home the competitive prize, although @tjroyuh.bsky.social's doodled ghost was adorable. @aeratepsig.bsky.social
Today in our Psychology of Learning in STEM class, we talked about motivation and emotions. Everyone enjoyed the activity I borrowed from Ben Heddy, where they rated emotions before and after (1) doodling and (2) competing to draw the best picture of me. What do you think?
We talked about Mindsets today in Achievement Motivation, and we were honored by a visit from the always-gracious Carol Dweck! @summerrobinson.bsky.social @tjroyuh.bsky.social @zachbaquet.bsky.social @aera-motsig.bsky.social @aeratepsig.bsky.social (1/N)
Return of Ben Heddy's Lego self-efficacy activity today in Achievement Motivation class! Students built a Lego set with 1) the box and the instructions, 2) just the box but no instructions, or 3) no box AND no instructions. @tjroyuh.bsky.social @summerrobinson.bsky.social @zachbaquet.bsky.social
You should all register for Ben's workshop! I used one of @benheddy.bsky.social's activities today in Achievement Motivation. There was tons of laughter and it was proclaimed "the best day ever." (1/5) @aeratepsig.bsky.social @aera-motsig.bsky.social
We had a great discussion about classroom barriers, safe classroom climates where we aren't afraid of making mistakes, emotions, and things that affect our outcome and efficacy expectations. Also, we all loved Summer's Lego cat! 🥰
A great comment from a student about what to take away from his visit: "Famous researchers are regular people!" 🥰 (4/4)
We asked him about how situated expectancy-value theory developed over time, how we could incorporate belonging into it, how grad students navigate priorities with mentors' expectations, how to think about racialized cost and Black joy in the context of Black parent belonging, and much more. (2/4)
His advice to grad students for getting used to constructive feedback: "If the person giving you feedback didn’t believe in you, they wouldn’t be giving you this feedback." (3/4)
It is always a treat to have Allan Wigfield come chat with students in my Achievement Motivation seminar! @tjroyuh.bsky.social @zachbaquet.bsky.social @summerrobinson.bsky.social @aera-motsig.bsky.social (1/4)
