Keeping an eye on "Alt" US Govt. accounts, and one account in particular. For more of my writing on this subject: https://dispatchesfromtheonlinevoid.wordpress.com/ My main account: @jjoycelynch.bsky.social Visit altnationalparks.com to learn more!

In the last week, the Alt National Park Service has posted about breaking news stories 29 times. Of those 29 posts, only eight have links to news sources, a 27% attribution rate.

Alt National Park Service: We had thought the “safety issues” at the Kennedy Center were caused by the Trump administration. It appears that might be the case. In a sworn declaration filed today, a legal observer said she witnessed a forklift carrying fencing drive to the north

Quick break to highlight this account, which took advantage of the Ed Sheeran/Macklemore news to spam the timeline with a screed about "Jewish control." Acct seems like it got quickly nuked (RIPBOZO), but it's a reminder that weird bigots will latch onto any passing story to boost their bullshit.

Mark Weaver (@markallanweaver .bsky.social). His profile image is a white man in a baseball cap aggressively plugging his ears.

"Left of Left journalist canceled and libeled by dysfunctional X policing bot, I post on politics. Anti-war, anti-militarist social justice socialist. Author of 'Out in the Cold,' a memoir manuscript on the rip off Gig economy."An article called "MACKLEMORE EXPOSES JEWISH CONTROL" by Mark Weaver. The article features tags, one of which is "Jews."

Genuinely, define "important." Because what I see is an account that postures as a #resistance "coalition" while blatantly plagiarizing real journalists, lying about having inside information about current events, and spreading paranoia through nonsense "codes." Avoid AltNPS at all costs.

I'm encouraging all of you to follow Alt National Park Service. They're too important not to follow. @altnps.bsky.social

The Alt National Park Service actually has quite a history with polygraph tests, going back to the early days of their post-election resurgence. They claimed staffers had been forced to take polygraphs, and somehow used that to justify asking followers to "leave random comments on this post."

Alt National Park Service: please leave random comments on this post. Eighty staffers have been subjected to lie detector tests. All we can share at this time.

The master spies at the Alt National Park Service are keeping their coalition members safe from polygraph tests by giving them specific, actionable advice like "take precautions."

Alt National Park Service: So the Trump administration has brought polygraphs back to multiple departments because information keeps getting out. Just a reminder: take precautions, protect your identity, and never assume your communications are completely private.

Being cringe is hardly a crime, but I just can't stand this "lol are you triggered, MAGAts???" energy. I don't think this would "upset MAGA." If you showed them this pic, MAGA would just call you a slur and forget they ever saw it.

Alt National Park Service: We love how much this upsets MAGA. 🤣

This is the big thing I want to hammer home with my work here: we on the left are not *better* than conspiracy theorists. We are not *above* propaganda. We are not *too smart* to fall for scams. People like AltNPS know how to exploit our fears and manipulate our anxieties, and we need to be alert.

What's that saying about how being aware of propaganda doesn't make you immune to it? I followed that Alt National Park account for a while because I wanted some kind of hope too.

The Alt National Park Service exploded in popularity after the 2024 election, and their cryptic, mysterious "code number" posts were a big part of their rise. In the aftermath of the election, people were desperate for hope, and AltNPS was ready to exploit that desperation 🧵:

Alt National Park Service: Seventeen. Three. Twenty-eight. Thirty-six. Eleven.

There's a lot we don't know about AltNPS. Their real name, for example. Their nationality. How long they've controlled the account. But there's a surprising amount that we DO know about the Alt National Park Service 🧵:

Alt National Park Service: Not all echoes are meant to return. The lights flicker not from power loss, but memory. When the clock chimes out of rhythm and the sky hums a little too low, you’ll understand what wasn’t written. Some birds don’t migrate—they vanish.

And a very special thanks to T-shirt dropshippers who pretend to be park rangers on the internet for attention. May you never run out of code numbers, and may your sticker sales never run dry. Amen.

Alt National Park Service: Happy 110th birthday to the National Park Service! And thank you to everyone who has taken action this week to support and defend our parks.Alt National Park Service: Two hUndred tWenty-sEven.

Please disregard this, as our group is fighting battles on multiple fronts.

Fwiw Biden set records for capturing horses and kept them in conditions that killed many of them. People are welcome to opinions on our horse population, but I can’t really take them seriously when they only have them when one party is in power.

You think Trump can’t possibly become any worse of a monster, and then you find out his administration is sending America’s wild horses to slaughterhouses. What the Trump administration is doing to our wild horses is absolutely disgusting. 🤮 There has to be a line.

This is quite a throwback, and the quirky millennial "I was all like, LOL no" language has aged as gracefully as you'd expect. I'm also not thrilled with a fake "coalition" of nonexistent park rangers appropriating Martin Niemöller's poem for their LARP.

Alt National Park Service: Thank you for everything. Tomorrow, there will be more of us.

[The attached picture says, "First they came for the scientists. And the National Park Service said, 'LOL. No.' And went rogue, and we were all, like, "I was not expecting the park rangers to lead the resistance. None of the dystopian novels I read prepared me for this. Two possibilities here: 1. It's an honest coincidence, and AltNPS probably doesn't know I exist. 2. They forgot they ever promised to make a website until I mentioned it yesterday, and are now slapping something together. I know which option is funnier, so that's what I'm choosing to believe.

Alt National Park Service: Tonight we’re launching our new public-interest website about the National Design Studio. The goal is to put everything we know in one place and make it easier for people to see what the Studio is actually doing.

The Studio isn’t just giving government websites a facelift. It’s building and

It's been over a month since the Alt National Park Service promised to have a comprehensive website dedicated to tracking DOGE/National Design Studio active in "about a week." To my knowledge, AltNPS hasn't mentioned this project again since the day they announced it.

Alt National Park Service: Thanks to everyone who helped support our new project yesterday to track the transition from DOGE to the National Design Studio. We were able to bring on a team to help develop the site, and it’s already making great progress. We’re hoping to have it live in about a week.
