October, 2015 Ed stands outside the museum, huffing warm breaths into his fingers. Fuck, Boston is cold. He always forgets. Not that he had time to pack anything truly warm before he jumped on a spontaneous flight in LA. It felt more urgent to get here than it did to fish out his winter gear from storage in New York (and, letโ€™s be real, his winter gear is just a pair of fingerless gloves at this point). When Ed sees a sporty little SUV careen around the corner, he fully forgets about the cold. Stede parks like he drives โ€” like an absolute maniac. Thereโ€™s no way that parallel space heโ€™s slotting into is legal, and he definitely just dinged the Audi in front of him. But when Stede gets out of the car, heโ€™s grinning, jogging toward Ed before he even locks the door, and Ed canโ€™t help the feeling of warmth and relief that washes over him. Theyโ€™re here. Together. At last. Edโ€™s running to meet him before his brain can even tell his feet what to do. They slam into each other for a hug that takes the breath from Edโ€™s lungs.

It's hardly a ship of tea-drinkers; Lucius just tells him that tea is tea is tea. Black Pete probably doesn't even know how to spell it, for goodnessโ€™ sake. Opportunities to show off this particular collection with someone who properly gets it are few and far between, and Stede is hardly one to turn down such an opportunity. The problem, then, is actually two problems: 1) In order to give Ed the full experience, he chose not to limit his tea tasting selection to only the sleepytime ones, and now he's wide awake and jittering out of his skin. 2) He really, really needs to urinate.

Sometimes a book you read as a teenager traumatises you and then 20 years later you whump your blorbo with it

Stede looked at his arm, trapped between the boulder and the canyon wall. Well and truly wedged in. He couldn't even feel it, which was probably a blessing. He thought about the fact he didn't tell anyone where he was going, other than he was going to check out the national park. No one knew which canyon he was in, or when to expect him home. So utterly stupid. He wasn't a canyoneer, he was an idiot! Stede inventoried his belongings. Water, check. Rope, check. Multi-tool penknife, check. Camera, check. Spare battery, check. Phone, check. Phone signal? Nothing. Not surprising considering he was in a slot canyon with twenty meter high walls. Food? Check. Well, water and food to last him the day, anyway. He hadn't exactly prepared to become completely and utterly stuck with no hope of escape.
