2/n: Banning diesel exports would *temporarily* provide some price relief for most of the country, but not for New England. Because pipelines don't run that far north, PADD 1A has to import large amounts of diesel, which means it's competing with a (structurally short diesel) Europe for barrels

Argus calculations suggest it would take 50 days from a US ban on diesel exports for domestic inventory to reach the pandemic tanks-full highs, at which point refineries would have to cut crude runs, with the obvious effects on gasoline prices. Midterms are 41 days away

Barclays on oil prices: not seeing much non-Opec supply response even at elevated prices. If the current situation persists, there could be a 50% increase from current price levels before the market achieves an organic balance. Bank's base case is $96/bl Brent this year, $85/bl next year
