The Republic of Soundland is disappointed by Gov. Ferguson's response to the WSF strike. It is clear that this is a last ditch effort to secure better conditions by a critical but demoralized workforce. We call on Gov. Ferguson to come to the bargaining table with MEBA to restore service.

That said, causing significant harm and inconvenience to the people of Washington state is not the way to address those issues. I was very direct in our meeting: My expectation is that every vessel on every route is fully operational no later than the first vessel sailing tomorrow morning.

Global warming is set to cross 1.5°C, pushing climate risks and impacts to increasingly dangerous heights, a new UNEP report warns.   Predicted impacts include extreme weather and threats to human health and economies.

Happy Independence Day, Soundlandians! Six years ago, the Republic of Soundland declared independence from the US to create a space for human rights. It now has nearly 60 citizens, embassies abroad, and is a familiar member of the intermicronational community. Democracy, Liberty, and Equality!

"A concentration camp, in its most basic definition, is a place where a targeted civilian population, not necessarily accused of a crime, is detained and at least some of their basic rights are suspended," writes @jwashing.bsky.social. "That’s precisely what’s happening in the United States today."

Don’t call them ICE detention centers. Call them camps | John Washington

I’ve spent a decade reporting on immigration enforcement. The word ‘camp’ best captures the political function of these facilities

The Republic of Soundland is deeply concerned by the Government of India's excessive and unprovoked use of force against student protesters. Police have been reported as initiating a violent crackdown on dissent and an internet blackout, in violation of human rights. www.hrw.org/news/2026/07...

As wildfires rage yet again in North America, all governments must recognize climate change as an existential crisis demanding immediate action. States that ignore this threat should be held accountable for every death due to their criminal negligence.

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, we must face the truth that American democracy is dead. Neighbors die in concentration camps. Troops roam the streets arresting dissidents. Corruption is blatant and unrestrained. A unstable president unilaterally declares war.

Disappointed but not surprised by the Carney government’s abandonment of their emission reduction targets. Saying they did so for global stability as thousands die of extreme heat is ridiculous. The climate apocalypse threatens to end society as we know it.

Canada will not hit carbon emission reduction targets set under the Trudeau government, Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a video posted to YouTube. He argued that downgrading the country’s climate-change ambitions is necessary for global stability and national unity.

The Republic of Soundland condemns the recent and inhumane SCOTUS ruling against transgender athletes, which not only dehumanizes transgender people, but will result in forced genital inspection of minors. This ruling is incompatible with international law and children’s rights.

@npr.org This minimizing of Internally Displaced Trans Persons, who are fleeing their home states out of the very real fear of prosecution or violence is deeply troubling. Their experiences can not be compared to those who move simply because of their personal politics.

this is a story about a person who fled to seattle because their life was threatened because of who they are, the other a person who fled seattle because he was a selfish and entitled person who felt out of place these are not the same www.npr.org/2026/06/08/n...

No person should have a trillion dollars. This unfathomable hight of wealth has been created by decades of incredible exploitation and deep seated corruption. The American people must realize the scale of their oppression by the ruling class and take action.
