This morning, my office received reports of immigration enforcement activity in Boyle Heights involving a deeply disturbing incident: two unmarked vehicles, believed to be operated by ICE agents, crashed into a civilian car with two children inside.

Over the past 24 hours, numerous reports have emerged of ICE activity across Los Angeles County. In response, many in our community, including advocacy groups and concerned residents, have exercised their First Amendment rights to protest peacefully and speak out against these actions.

Last night, there were multiple reports of ICE activity, along with other federal agencies, in Chinatown. Their presence sparked renewed fear and concern, particularly as they gathered in the parking lot on Hill Street.

Today's immigration sweeps across the First District in downtown Los Angeles, Westlake, and Cypress Park are deeply disturbing. The individuals detained are hardworking Angelenos who contribute to our local economy and labor force every day.

Today, I had the honor of joining the César Chávez Foundation and the City of Montebello for the grand opening of the Vista de JJ Rodriguez Apartments, named in tribute to JJ Rodriguez, a prominent labor and community leader.
