What's something that happened when you were younger that would not be ok now? When I was in primary school, there was a teacher you would be sent to if you had a wobbly tooth and were being annoying with it. She would pull your tooth out of your mouth, and send you back to your own class. WTF 😅

Am I just old and grumpy, or does anyone else hate venues that make you use an app to access tickets for their events? Tonight I arrived at a venue to discover the app was saying it couldn't find any tickets (despite them being there 2 days ago when I checked) Just email me the bloody ticket FFS 🤨😒😴

This term I have been explicitly modelling (on the board) how to create flashcard revision resources with my #ALevelMaths Further Maths classes, at the end of each topic. The students can choose whether to use cut up paper (provided by me), their own index cards, or a flashcard app. #MathsToday

Email from AQA saying that exam papers will be available the day after the exam (12pm for a morning exam, 4:30pm for an afternoon exam) is welcome news 🥳 No more having to pester the exams office for a copy of the paper to see which topics haven't come up yet 😁 #MathsToday #ALevelMaths

In #ALevelMaths in mid-September, I taught something and said "this will be on the first assessment, and you will all forget to write it, and will all get it wrong". Lo and behold, I am marking the first assessment, and they all forgot to write it, and they all got it wrong 🤦‍♀️

Just marked my attempt at the Senior Maths Challenge paper. I got 104, so I reckon I got enough to get through to the Senior Kangaroo but not the BMO1. Being slightly worse at maths than some of the students you teach definitely keeps you grounded 😂 #MathsToday

215 answer sheets uploaded 🥳 Very glad that our college is supportive of Senior Maths Challenge, including paying for the entries out of an enrichment budget and the exams team getting invigilators in to help it run smoothly! #MathsToday

Good luck to everyone taking part in the Senior Mathematical Challenge tomorrow! 🍀 With 90 minutes and 25 questions designed to get you thinking, there’s plenty to challenge beginners and experienced problem-solvers alike.

I have 2 students with the same first name and very similar surnames, who sit next to each other. Thus, we had a conundrum over what I should call them to distinguish them easily (eg when cold calling) I suggested numbers, but they couldn't agree on who would be [Name] 1 and [Name] 2. We considered

I've got one copy of *The Mathematicians' Library* to give away in each of four languages: Polish, German, Japanese, and Spanish. I'm offering them for free (including UK postage) & I'd like them to go somewhere that'd make good use of them. If you think *your* organisation or group would...

Four editions of The Mathematicians’ Library are arranged on a patterned surface: the Polish edition, German edition, Japanese edition and Spanish edition. The Polish and Spanish covers feature a Renaissance-style astronomical diagram with a Vitruvian figure, while the German edition has a vivid purple-and-pink fractal design and the Japanese edition shows colourful abstract mathematical forms.

I love looking back at previous order numbers for Senior Maths Challenge over the time I've been in charge of running it. Making tricky non-calculator voluntary maths tests cool amongst teenagers since 2021 😎😅 #MathsToday

The number of packs of 10 UKMT Senior Maths Challenge entries ordered each year increases from 5 in 2021 to 23 in 2026.

New year's resolutions always feel more meaningful for me in September, rather than January. Week 3 of Operation Drag Self Out Of Bed And Run Before Work has been achieved. I feel like it's going to be harder (colder/darker) going forward, and have optimistically purchased a reflective vest... 😬🏃‍♀️

A screenshot from Strava showing distances run each day for the last 4 weeks. The circles typically show around 5.2km, 3-4 times per week.
Today was a bit longer (10.1km) because it is the weekend...

There is a distinct, largely generational, split in our department at the moment, causing some heated discussions. So... how often do you shut down your laptop? (Like, fully shut down, not just close the lid) a) Every day b) Only when something goes wrong, or it tell you to restart c) Something else
