“I’ve heard from a bunch of people in our field who say, ‘Uh oh, are they training on my prompts?’” Dr. Shipman said. “We can’t not think about it.” ... '[A]fter Anthropic’s announcement last week, he is winding down his projects with Claude.' “I’m shutting down everything,” [Dr. Mestre] said.
Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

@symbionticism.bsky.social has always seen parts of me that are not evident to me. But I certainly am a microbial enthusiast, a microbial evangelist, and stalwart proponent of microbial outreach. Thank you, Seth. As always.
Our own modeling backs this paper up. There are more mathematical paths to speciation in a holobiont setting when we run the equations or the lab experiments. Strict, host-centric models put the blinders on to biological reality and potential. Great piece.

When the high priest of microbiology issues a proclamation, you do two things. Listen and Implement.
I think that the "holobiont concept" is an important one for introductory biology courses. I am obviously not the person to write an essay to promote that point of view, but I have certainly pushed it in my courses, as you can see from the attached images. #Holobiont 1/2
