Hello everyone! The next plates we will be talking about come from the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 Passenger car plates start with a leading A and plates for SUVs or Jeeps start with a leading G.

Hello everyone! The next plates we will be talking about are from Japan 🇯🇵 Here’s the two examples from Japan that I have. Note that passenger car plates in Japan have green characters on a white background whereas kei car plates have black characters on a yellow background. More info in alt text

Two license plates from Japan.

Japanese ones are coded by vehicle class, vehicle type and prefecture of registration.

Green and white plates signify it’s for a passenger car whereas black and yellow plates signify it’s for a kei car.

Prefecture of registration is signified by the two characters on top of each plate near the 500 numbers. The regular passenger car one was registered in Akita prefecture and the kei one was registered in Iwate prefecture based on the characters.

The 500 and 581 numbers on the top near the prefecture codes signify vehicle class. According to official documentation vehicle codes starting in 5 signify that the car is a passenger car with engine displacement under 2000 cc and shorter than 4.7 meters (15 ft) and narrower than 1.7 meters (5.6 ft).

The characters to the left of the actual registration code on the bottom left signify what type of car it is (privately owned, rental, etc.) but I was unable to determine these characters as I couldn’t find a lot of info on them.

And finally, the two big holes on the top left near the prefecture codes signify the plate has been retired by Japan’s transport ministry and can’t be used again.

Hello! The next plate we will be talking about is the NASCAR ones issued in Pennsylvania. From what I know there were about 50 types of NASCAR in PA. This particular one I have is called the Dale Earnhardt legacy plate. post continues in comments

Hello everyone! Here is the plate of the month! This is a vanity plate from the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) that celebrates pride! 🏳️‍🌈 This is the first one that I’ve seen that’s not a sample. I looked this plate style up before posting and I could only find pictures of samples.

Hello! The next plates we will be talking about are from the country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines 🇻🇨 Their ones have been this way for 90+ years, white/silver characters on a black background and a leading P for private vehicles as pictured here. This is a tough country to get plates from!

For my first post on BlueSky here’s 2 plates from the French overseas territory of French Guiana 🇬🇫 Plates from French Guiana will use the same plate format as most French territories but will use overseas code 973 as pictured here (all overseas French territories use codes in the 970 or 980 range)
