(I think the below is correct, obviously) find the ‘this has been happening, it is only now that white people care about it’ argument puzzling too, because presumably no one would suggest that Nidal Hasan would typically be the subject of disproportionate white sympathy

The posture of Knowingness which is quick to assert that actually there is no sense things are getting worse when the state livestreams an execution because it's analogous to cop killings of the past is very stupid. You can and should notice changes.

Frankly i think we’re on a hiding to nowhere rhapsodising about the spiritual value of art, most people don’t care & we’re better off with ‘i am good at it, there is no reason why i shouldn’t make my living doing it & it is a labour issue if art’s primary beneficiaries replace my job with a robot’

look if anything fewer people should be parents because if you find you’re no good at it there really are no take backsies BUT nothing makes it easier to shrug about weirdos being weird online than hearing my son bellowing ‘mama i have BEARS on my JUMPER’ up the stairs at me so there we go

i remember liking this essay & it’s a shame it didn’t work out but somehow the detail of the 6 month old baby escaped me at the time & regrettably the husband is immediately rubber stamped for a punishment dreamed up by a minor 3rd century client king

the author of this 2022 piece has a book coming out about the collapse of her marriage. While there are heterosexual couples in open relationships that survive, I don't think any of them are writing articles about it. www.theparisreview.org/blog/2022/06...

I used to be keen on guilt by association, & have changed my mind on it but it is funny when you see people defending those they find sympathetic with ‘they were smeared for quite simply [totally innocuous version of what i believe]’ & then you find out what they actually have to say for themselves

not to Discourse but nothing shook me out of my ‘i should quit my lily livered soft hand pansy computer job’ posturing more than seeing lads on house renovation jobs during the heatwave, no my grandfather would not be proud but equally i am not shifting tiles under a violent sun

i really don’t mourn twitter at all, think i got what i was going to get from it, but then i remember i once spent a good hour being told off by a total stranger because i’d tweeted something along the lines of ‘there’s no such thing as a janeane garofolo’ & the tears start falling

issuing an enormous cloud of Lost Mary double strawberry as i tell everyone in the playground that the cartoon squirrel has been fragged by her own side for posting nazi blank verse on discord

generational wars are boring but i was reminded today of an old friend trying to break up with someone while andrew wk’s party hard played in the background and that’s the sort of rich experience a 25 year old is totally deprived of

in the film version of Room on the Broom, Timothy Spall does a really sexy line reading of ‘now i must fly’. do you think that was a directors note or is Timothy Spall just a slut

i know someone who immediately booked a face tattoo for the 12th of september because he thought the world was going to end, & then panicked at the last minute & got it on his arm instead

Opt 1: melancholy look at men whose lives didn’t turn out as hoped & trying to protect their children from repeating their mistakes, only to make different ones, ends in bittersweet visit to derelict shopping centre. 2: tone and content kept identical, they are 40 but no one notices or mentions it

THEY ARE ALL NOW IN THEIR FORTIES, WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY 'IN BETWEEN' AT THIS POINT? LOSING THEIR VIRGINITY AND THE ICY GRIP OF THE GRAVE?

here’s a query for the cosy indoors friday night crowd: if you could be presented with an itemised list of how many hours of your life you have wasted watching terrible tv shows would you want to see it?

whoever came up with ‘it’s not my job to educate you’ did genuinely great work, up until that point i had experimented with a number of methods for getting out of saying what i meant by something, with little to no success

just thinking about how i read a book that was lauded and praised all over the place and how one of the plot threads was tied up by having an elderly failed poet ‘find out he could put his poems on instagram’ and as a result selling like a million copies of his book or something & i’m so pissed off

I think two exes ago should be called your grand ex, 3 exes ago is your great grand ex etc. This has been poorly received by all testing groups but i vow to force it into common parlance by year’s end

so sad about tim curry, i sent this pic of him to this girl i used to work with at least 10 times a day until she got annoyed with me, then i pretended i needed her to look at an urgent Jira ticket for me before a meeting and when she reluctantly looked over at my screen i’d changed my desktop to it
