First cd I owned? This, in ‘88. I bought a cd player just for this, on the promise of the (glorious) two extra tracks
Oh alright then… in 1984, IIRC.
Really enjoyed this one - could have just sat back and listened to Damian for another hour or two

An absolutely splendid evening (which ended quite a bit later than expected, and long after the show itself) If you’re in London and can get one of the last three tickets, do so. If you’re in Edinburgh during festival, put this on your must see list, it’s a magnificent show
Particular thanks to the people who joined me on stage for some fun at the end. @johngibbons.bsky.social, @ianrsalmon.bsky.social, and Andy Miller from @backlisted.bsky.social

I’m not particularly a fan of Phil Collins (In The Air Tonight is obviously genius) but this is a fantastic listen - a great interview with a man who wants to talk openly about what he does (the Sodajerker lads being brilliant as ever)
On this very special episode, the legendary Phil Collins joins us to discuss the 45th anniversary reissue of his solo debut Face Value, how his hits came from "mucking about" in his home studio, and his years writing with Genesis. Find it on your favourite platform: pod.link/sodajerker

People who have concerns that the new PM isn’t chosen by the people are not going to enjoy the news about the king.
I demand that all the half-wit Tories who defected to Reform because the Tory Party was too intellectual for them should immediately resign their seats and stand in a by-election.
Nigel Farage and Reform predictably pretending they want a General Election. A) They just got hammered by Burnham in Makerfield. B) Farage himself is on record admitting a month ago that Reform aren’t ready for an election.
Nick Robinson was just asked what’s wrong with British politics when we’ve had 7 PMs in the last 10 years. What happened 10 years ago? Of course Nick wasn’t able to say.

Eight. I’ve read eight. And one of them was one I hated while doing my A levels. What we really need here is a function for ‘how many have you started and got really bored with’ and another for ‘how many have you bought and never opened’ (about 60 on that one) www.theguardian.com/p/x4f9v5

Don’t all rush at once but I’ve just signed a load of books in Waterstones Liverpool.
An incredible night last night at @liverpoolempire.bsky.social for Aaron Sorkin’s magnificent adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ A stunning piece of theatre; intelligent, brave storytelling with fantastic performances and direction. An absolute must see, timely and important.
This country might be about to have its 6th Prime Minister in 7 years. Why? Because they’ve all failed to take on a rigged economic system that enriches the few at the expense of us all. People want a society where children don’t go hungry. That is really not too much to ask.
An absolutely beautifully written review of a wonderful book (Full disclosure in the spirit of Karl’s full disclosure: he is writing about a book written by a mate; I am writing about a review written by a mate, of a book written by another mate)

As leader of the UK’s largest union, I want Labour to succeed – but that means radical change | Andrea Egan
If this isn’t to be the last ever Labour government, the party is going to need to reconnect with the labour movement, says Andrea Egan, general secretary of Unison

This is brilliant. And it’s not just the children; my eldest is 30, all he’s ever really known is ideologically inflicted austerity. We need a revolution in the Labour Party right now if this is ever going to change.
Wrote about the elections for the paper (which went to press last night): www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
Labour losing votes to Greens, Tories to Reform. The left / right split remains. The big story is loss of faith in trad parties. It's an inevitable consequence of nearly 20 years of austerity. The economy doesn't work for most of us. GDP means nothing if 90% of growth goes to the richest 10%
I think the amount of people who fear expressing their culture is really frightening and shows how endemic the bigotry and zealotry around it is. If you're afraid to wear something that identifies you as palestinian, jewish, muslim then you're not free, you're just not
The number of different communities living in fear in the UK is astonishing.
