Most publishers (there are always exceptions) decide whether or not to buy a second book (or a third etc) based on how the previous book did. So when you pirate a book in most cases it’s less about the money you just stole from both author and publisher it’s about the future book you just killed.

I'm on a quest to find writing inspiration in media outside of 80s and early 90s romantic comedies, so I've been watching more things. Over the break, I binged two seasons of Resident Alien, watched Alien Romulus (twice!), and made it through 1/2 of Beau is Afraid
Anytime anything remotely positive or hopeful happens in my career, something immediately comes along to smack my writing confidence right back below the earth's crust. Like, don't get too comfortable!! Never forget that you're meant to suffer!!
