Proud to represent San Diego and a new generation of leaders in Congress.

President Trump’s actions – including tariffs and the war with Iran – have driven up food prices and Republicans’ cuts to food assistance programs have pushed more Americans into debt just to cover groceries. None of this was necessary.

Column | More Americans are buying groceries on credit. Here’s why that’s a problem.

Families are paying for groceries with revolving debt, which then traps them into accumulating years of interest payments for food they’ve long since consumed.

Every day, Donald Trump finds new ways to be corrupt — and big corporations and billionaires are always right there to take him up on it. When Democrats are in the majority in Congress, we will stop this.

Why Wall Street Firms Are Paying $100,000 a Month for a Fast Track to Trump Posts

Traders who already monitor the president’s pronouncements with automated systems can pay for an ultrafast feed. At least five firms have signed up.

When I inspected Dilley Detention Center earlier this year, I met toddlers who were too traumatized to eat and go to the bathroom. Right now, the youngest child in custody is 2 months old. You cannot be pro-life or pro-family and support this. Shut down Dilley.

ICE locking up more parents and children at for-profit detention center in Texas

An increasing number of parents and children are being held at the nation’s only immigration detention center specially designed to hold families — a reversal of a downward trend earlier this year.

Public health matters! Outbreaks like this are exactly why we need qualified experts and public health infrastructure in place to keep all of us safe. Remember this the next time Trump and Republicans try to gut essential parts of our government.

The American people deserve to know the true human cost of Trump's war in Iran and the sacrifices by our service members shouldn’t be made in vain. Any attempt to skirt accountability by manipulating data or failing to disclose casualties is unacceptable.

Pentagon Changes How It Reports Casualties in Iran War

The changes separated the casualty numbers into two separate web pages, potentially making it more difficult to tally the war’s full toll.

It was great to join Alex Noyes and Dafna Rand from the Brookings Institution to talk about how we can build an incentive-based U.S. security assistance system that promotes transparency, accountability, and oversight, strengthens our partnerships, and protects our reputation.

As more San Diego-based troops are deployed to the Middle East, it's our job in Congress to make sure that the sacrifices they willingly make are necessary – and that all non-military options have been exhausted. President Trump must end this war now.

Iran operations intensify as thousands more San Diego troops arrive off coast

The amphibious assault ship USS Boxer left San Diego in March and arrived in the Middle East last month, joining the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been at sea more than 220 consecutive days.

The national average of a gallon of gas is over $4.00 – thanks to Trump’s war in Iran. In San Diego, it’s about $5.60. But House Republicans don’t care that you’re paying more at the pump; they’re fighting for another $60 BILLION for this war.

I proudly signed the discharge petition to force a vote on the American Dream and Promise Act. Dreamers deserve a pathway to citizenship and eligible TPS (Temporary Protected Status) and DED (Deferred Enforced Departure) holders need permanent protections. Let's get this done.

More U.S. service members have died because of Donald Trump’s reckless war in Iran – but that’s not deterring House Republicans. They’re pushing for another $60 BILLION of taxpayer dollars to continue this war that will likely cost even more American lives.

I visited UCSD’s Supercomputer Center to learn more about how they’re using advanced computing and AI to tackle real-world challenges, including supporting wildfire response and advancing health care research. It’s critical that we harness AI to help people, not just a few tech companies.

I met with the Karen Organization of San Diego – which serves families of Burmese descent – and met kids in their summer camp! We also visited PANA's Global Marketplace, which supports refugee-owned businesses like Doh Doh Coffee, the first Karen-owned coffee shop in San Diego.

Gun violence has shattered so many communities across this country – including ours, in San Diego. I’m grateful to be working alongside folks like the Alliance to End Gun Violence to end this epidemic and protect future generations from this unnecessary trauma.

I had a great time meeting these kids at John Muir Language Academy’s PrimeTime Summer Enrichment Program! Free summer school programs like this are so important for strengthening kids’ academic and social-emotional skills while their parents are at work.

Last week, I helped pack backpacks with school supplies with Home Start, a local non-profit focused on helping kids grow up in safe and stable homes across San Diego County. Every kid deserves to have everything they need to thrive in school and beyond.

Proud to visit Stepping Stone, which specializes in LGBTQ+-affirming treatment for substance use disorder, mental health services, and transitional housing. When it was founded in 1976, most treatment programs turned away LGBTQ+ people or asked them to closet themselves.
