I am sorry but my illness got recently so bad, I will not post any photos on regular basis in the future. I am suffering from a PSP. It is a rare, progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting walking, balance, eye movements, and cognition.

yesterday I woke up, fell out of bed, forgot the comb, & drove to a mountain called Lassen. road is now open thru the park & I was hoping for reflection pics at Lake Helen. but, it was only reflecting glare, like no matter where you looked, the sun was going to be in your eyes. #BlueTue #ColorADay

a panorama of frozen Lake Helen (8164' asl) viewed from the roadside on Hwy 89.
from the left, Loomis Peak (8500' asl), Eagle Peak (9222' asl), Mt Lassen (10,460' asl), & Mt Helen (8500' asl). the lake and mountain are named after Helen Brodt, first woman to ascend Lassen Peak, doing so in 1864 with her husband before Mt Lassen as a national park was even a concept.

Walking, balance (especially falling backwards) and overall slowness are the current issues. I am now 74, and since the PSP has not yet affected my cognition, memory or personality, I believe that I can consider myself as the lucky one.

It typically affects people over 60, with symptoms worsening over 5–7 years. By the end I should loose totally my ability to move. There is no cure or effective medication, so please don’t send me any new connection requests because I will have to delete them.

I just wanted to thank you all for your support and friendship, and to say goodbye while I still can. The ominous end of the previous sentence comes from the fact that I was diagnosed a little over 4 years ago to suffer of PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) that is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson.

It was a really lucky timing since I was diagnosed to have a cancer that was operated already before Christmas 2018 in Scotland. Therefore the risk of renewal was over by the end of 2023, and my risk to get another cancer is the same as anyone getting their first cancer at my age.

My first issue was the hearing problems: Otosclerosis is genetic and there was nothing I would not have tried to keep it at bay. My right ear was operated already in 1994, and that (with development of hearing aids) enabled me to create my international career until my retirement in Autumn 2018.

On the contrary, I am more convinced than ever, that the second richest guy in the world does not need my voluntary work to increase his wealth. I am sorry for becoming so passive in BlueSky too, but perhaps you will understand it better if you take the effort to read these messages:

Hi to all my friends in BlueSky! A little over one year ago, I was going to end supporting Meta by moving my photo publishing from Facebook and Instagram into BlueSky Social. This message does not mean that I would have changed my mind.
