Look who I met up with, by chance, in San Sebastián, Spain, yesterday! Soo Downe, for those of you who don’t know her, she’s a professor of midwifery. And my buddy and advocate. Soo is cycling with her partner, and happened to be close by. Incredible. We had two hours of non-stop chatter.

The women in this photo are my older sisters. We were five girls. I never experienced gender inequality - I wasn’t even aware of it. I now know something different but because of them I’m totally able to be who I want to be, without prejudice, most of the time. This is my sister’s wedding. I am 10

My wish for International Women’s Day - for birth trauma to be a thing of the past. That I cease to receive messages from women saying ‘never again’ and midwives saying ‘I want out of this, I don’t want to be part of it’. I’ll keep doing my bit - my life’s work.
