I’ve just spent the last few hours trying to fabricate what I imagine a cat would sound like eating a man... Why, you ask?! For a song, of course!
Feeling incredibly satisfied today to have recorded some crunchy leaves in my garden and then manipulated the sound to create 1) the sound of someone's ashes being fired up to space in a firework, and 2) the sound of a body sinking to the floor of the ocean. Why, you say?! For a new song, of course!
Just 6 more leaves (of 100s) left to embroider for my next stop-motion music video! Any recommendations for good podcasts to keep me company while I do it?

Homeward bound. Tired but happy and full of music! Thanks Wessex Folk Festival for a wonderful weekend and to everyone who came and shared their funny folk songs at my session yesterday. So many brilliant songs and singers!
On my way to Weymouth on a beautiful sunny day. Looking forward to a weekend at Wessex Folk Festival, meeting old friends and making new ones!
Thank you to Folkmylife for this lovely review! And I shall be expecting everyone to address me using my full title "The fabulous and enigmatic Amy Hopwood" from now on! ❤️ 🤣
I finished off another album track today (yay!) and it stars this beautiful fellow...
I'm always a bit pleased with myself when I squeeze an odd word into a song lyric. Today that word was "protractors" :-)
Lovely to receive this surprise review for All Shall Be Well! Big thanks to Kinda Grizzly for taking the time to do it. Read the whole thing here: kindagrizzly.substack.com/p/the-flower...
It's wonderful seeing all these #handsoff gatherings taking place around the world (but awful that they are needed). Here's my contribution to the protest in song form: youtu.be/gD9sJJXta-k?...

Glad I paid more so I could stay somewhere with a sea view... ☁️ ☁️ ☁️ But at least it's forcing me to get on with songwriting and stop gazing out of the window! 😀
Have you seen the film “A Complete Unknown”? It felt so refreshing to watch musicians being unapologetically political. These days you get the “stick to singing pretty songs, I liked you until you started getting political” attitude. How weird to be expected to...
Fire and Fury has now been played on the radio by 21 different DJs! And just look at the fine company I was keeping on Steve Clarke’s brilliant Strange Brew show last week… It’s very weird but very wonderful to see my name in amongst theirs!
Another lovely review from FATEA. Thank you! You can listen to me “venting my fury” here: linktr.ee/Fireandfury
Time for a Sunday Singalong! Here's the lyric video for my latest song, Fire and Fury... youtu.be/gD9sJJXta-k?...

Fancy hearing me playing my imaginary trumpet??! Well then, it’s time to listen to my new song! www.linktr.ee/Fireandfury
A perfect cartoon for one of the verses in my new song: “We repeat mistakes, we are not learning, Fiddling while the world is burning, We’re quiet as the earth’s destroyed, Distracted by our shiny toys” Listen here: linktr.ee/Fireandfury (Image credit to De Brasi)
“…Not bleeding hearts but judge and jury, let them feel our fire and fury…” Listen now: linktr.ee/Fireandfury
My new song uses the melody of the popular American Civil War song “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” (which was itself based on the Irish folk song “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye”). The tune felt fitting right now. Take a listen here: linktr.ee/Fireandfury
Anyone else feeling angry about the state of the world? My new song “Fire and Fury” uses a traditional folk melody alongside new lyrics about modern concerns. Specifically, the... 1/2
This is a picture of my granny's knife. My mum gave it to me when she was clearing out granny's house after her death. I was in my first rented flat and needed all the basic kitchen stuff. It's just a battered old Kitchen Devil knife, but it is very practical and I love the way it...
Anyone else horrified by the state of the world? Well, I have a new song coming out very soon about just that, and fighting back! But social media is increasingly flaky, so please consider joining my newsletter here: amyhopwood.co.uk/music/newsle... (Photo by Nijwam Swargiary on Unsplash)
I was very happy to go back to my singing roots at the Sailors Return folk night in Weymouth this week. And also very reassured to test out my newest song in public for the first time and discover that the chorus is indeed as sing-along-able as I'd hoped! Thank you!
