Last week we were invited to try the CityQ e-vehicles (with 4 wheels they must be e-quads rather than e-bikes?) They have no direct link between the pedals and the wheels, but you do have to pedal to activate the motor and with a maximum speed of 25kph they are still classed as an e-bike.

The family friendly cycle ride returns on the 26th April 😊 It's the fun, free, fully marshalled Kidical Mass ride! There are two feeder rides at 2pm, meeting for the main ride from the Peace Statue at 2.30pm. Join us on the day - and join Bricycles here: bricycles.org.uk/membership/

“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.” “Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath Some costs aren’t costs.

Copenhagen, the bicycle-friendliest place on the planet, publishes a biannual Bicycle Account, and buried in its pages is a rather astonishing fact.

Commuting by bicycle in Belgium pays off as employees earn compensation for every km they ride. 1 in 6 employees commute by bike and get a bicycle allowance of €0.28/km. People cycling to work in 2024 earned an average of around €460 net per year (some as high as €810), up 20% over the past year.

One in five people in Flanders commuted by bike and received compensation last year, but this figure is significantly lower in Brussels and Wallonia.

Earlier this week the ATE funding for the next four years was announced. Brighton receives £4.5m, which sees it near the top of the per-capita funding. Unfortunately, East and West Sussex are both towards the bottom end of the table:

Looking at today's Active Travel England (@ategov.bsky.social) updated funding allocations, here is the funding per person per year. I think it makes good sense to fund places that put money to best uses, I made this chart shows how that policy play out in practice. www.gov.uk/government/p...

The friends and family bicycle ride is back in Brighton and Hove on Sunday 21 September 2025. There will be two separate Kidical Mass rides on Sunday 21 September 2025 - one for Brighton, and one for Hove.
