We’re using the word e-bike to describe too many things. Electric assist bikes are a version of bike & have many public interest benefits. But vehicles being driven by food delivery app drivers aren’t a form of bike…they’re a form of motorcycle. They don’t belong on sidewalks or pedestrian streets.

Picture of food delivery app driver, one of many, I see each day on downtown Vancouver’s Granville Street pedestrian zone. It’s a motor vehicle, and doesn’t belong on a vehicle-prohibited pedestrian street like Granville Street, and definitely not on sidewalks either.

Haley Stevens was out with a gracious concession and a commitment to support Abdul El-Sayed within about one hour of the AP call in her race. If she can buck up first thing in the morning, everyone else can. That’s actual political leadership.

I meant to post this last night but if you’re mad about any of the primary results you got 24 hours to bleed, try not to say anything you’ll regret in 48, and then it’s Blue No Matter Who.

A 60 Minutes probe into Epstein's banking, with Wyden already interviewed, vanished right after Sharyn Alfonsi got pushed out under Bari Weiss. Same editor who stalled the CECOT migrant story until Stephen Miller got a say. CBS keeps calling it timing. Sure looks like a pattern.

60 Minutes Epstein Banking Story Vanished After CBS Ousted Sharyn Alfonsi, Dem Senator Reveals

Wyden revealed he was interviewed for the show in a Senate report alleging the country's largest banks turned “a blind eye” to Epstein's financial activity

How do we bring this back? I live amongst a demographic that loves cbc but doesn’t want our neighborhood to change and uses thier resources to stop it. I really think they just don’t understand the benefits. Canadian cities would be better off if a wider audience understand urban planning concepts

@marjolainekoch.bsky.social Ne Koch is an excellent French journalist, and she has chosen to interview a close friend and, above all, one of the pioneers and leading figures in 21st-century urban planning, Brent Toderian. Do read it and enjoy it!

ICYMI: “A North American city planner contracted by European cities—that’s curious.” My interview with France-based Lettre du Cadre and writer @marjolainekoch.bsky.social covering a lot of ground on how to actually achieve better European & North American city-building. Article in the screen shots.

The screenshots show the four pages of the article which is in French… Apologies, more than I can handle in alt text, especially in French. If there’s tech that can automatically read & copy it into alt text, I’d appreciate knowing about it.

Valencia, Spain. I was fortunate to spend a few days last winter. It has great public transportation but is small enough to walk most places from the city center. Great people, culture, and it's on the Mediterranean. Not too far of a train ride to Madrid or Barcelona and much more affordable!

"Some reports suggest there were more than 10,000 excess deaths during the record-breaking heatwave. The economic toll was estimated to be close to $2 billion. UN climate chief Simon Stiell said the June heatwave had “the fingerprints of the climate crisis all over it”.

“Western Europe is on fire. From the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea, blazes are burning in France, Spain, Greece and Türkiye. Authorities are already calling it the worst fire season in modern history.” The worst so far. #ClimateCrisis
