AP Stylebook warns against anthropomorphizing AI systems: “Avoid language that gives them human characteristics… Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.”

Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

This appears to be a bot/scam account propped up by other bots (the first reply is one) that jump on viral t-shirt posts with this exact reply that points to a hollow shell of an e-commerce site with AI reproductions of the viral shirts. Shitty way to exploit peoples’ desire to support real creators

I can *maybe* see a supporting role for some aspects of outlining, but I also suspect the post-processing required eliminates any initial time or cost savings. Just do it correctly from the start.

"Morphological illustrations are crucial in research on insect taxonomy and phylogenetics." So prioritize their accuracy. "Although traditional manual drawing and digital tracing techniques have undergone continuous evolution," Improving accuracy, 1/THREAD

One of the many hats I wear is that of a taxonomist who understands the important of accurate representation of morphology and I cannot stress in strong enough terms how you should not do this. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

In the hubbub about what qualifies as an anime, there is simply no way you can argue King of the Hill and ATLA are animes. It's only an anime if it's made in the Anima Valley in Japan. Doesn't matter if they're derived from Bugs and Mickey, those are just "sparkling cartoons."

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.

This and the preceeding posts, reflects something that I think is hard for people to understand about the power to change the world, and those who are afraid of it. Kindness, and its transformativeness, as Dolly follows Fred "Mr" Rogers show us, proves love is a strong force, by simply DOING.

dolly parton was many things, but what i think resonates so deeply is that she was kind. ACTIVELY kind. when i talk about proving love, this is what i mean. ACTIVE kindness. ACTIVE love. it can be easy to dismiss kindness, but i think the reaction to her passing shows it is not at all a placeholder

"I will always love you" comes from a movie with the titillating and unassuming title of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." It was always an odd thing to come across, much less praise, until I watched it. Whitney may have owned the song, but no one was as plaintive as Dolly. Rest, Queen.

Just so you know, since learning "coel-" is derived from Greek *koilos* meaning a hollow space, I've been saying Coelophysis and Coelacanth and yes, even Cephalopod (*kephalos*) with a hard-K since I was like, 15.

I like to think of drawing as a sort of challenge at times. You have a vision in your head, and you want to see it. You don't sometimes know what you want until you see it. Then there's this, making you realize: "You don't think you're able to be that good." THAT is the challenge to overcome.

One of French puppeteer Raphaël Gromy’s most recognizable performances features a puppet painting real artworks on canvas, blending puppetry, live performance, and visual art into a unique theatrical experience. 😊 IG: @artistsuniversum @raphael_gromy

If you're a biologist, especially one in a field that has a history of eugenics and racism (which absolutely includes my own field of evolutionary biology) and you choose to remain "neutral" as race science once again crawls out from under its rock, you are not in fact neutral.

Now I have to wonder why no one's done more than casual levels of "let's make the trunk short and slap it atop the chin there and fugeddabout it" facial reconstruction on belodonts. Mechanical leverage, head swishing, and trunk anatomy would be very fascinating.

Platybelodon jaw from Mongolia! Since the Field never had a paleontology expedition there, I imagine this was a trade with AMNH or part of the Waller Museum collection.

A long flat tan thing with flat incisor-looking bits on one end and molars on the other. Mounted to a board on a shelf with other fossils.
