I think if I teach 101, I am going to ask my students to write about two questions: 1) what has been left behind for you & by others for you to live fully? 2) what will you leave behind for others who you cannot imagine so that they may live fully?

I think it’s simpler than “we are playing by their rules”. It’s “we do not support any nomination from a corrupt grifter because such people are deeply untrustworthy. This president has depleted entirely his trustworthiness and credibility to put forth serious candidates.”

At best, this is naive realism. He's not struggling financially, so nobody is, and anyone who says they are is wrong or lying. It's related to their hatred of empathy. If you admit that someone's experience is valid, you also have to admit that yours isn't universal, and we can't have that!
