The U.S. uses prison labour (incl. for private firms) more than any other country, hasn't raised its min. wage ($7.25/hr) since 2009, and violates dozens of international labour standards every day. So Trump's new Section 301 tariffs have nothing to do with concern for labour. /2

Section 338 in US trade law is obscure & has never been used to impose tariffs in its 96 yrs of existence. Trump's use of it to threaten Canada is hollow & would be defeated in US courts. He is thrashing around trying to look strong despite a growing list of failures. Ignore him.

74% endorsement of a new pattern agreement for @unifor.org members at Ford, making robust gains amidst Trump’s tariff chaos. What an outstanding demonstration of solidarity and resilience. GM and Stellantis next. They’d be foolhardy to challenge this pattern. #canlab #cdnecon

Unifor members at Ford Motor Company facilities across Canada have voted overwhelmingly in support of a new three-year collective agreement that delivers wage increases, bonuses, pension improvements and more. autotalks.uniforautohub.ca/unifor_autow...

Congratulations to the bargaining committees and all @Unifor.org members at Ford for this new deal. Amazing to see such solid wage & benefit gains, at the same time nailing down future jobs and investments at a time of Trump-induced chaos for the industry. 👍✊🏼🙏🏼 #canlab

UBS 2026 Global Wealth Report confirms the typical (ie. median) Canadian is 2x wealthier than the median American. Cda ranks 7th on median wealth, US 28th. Galactic hoards of Musk, Bezos, et al inflate the US average but virtually none flows to most Americans. #canlab #cdnecon /2

Inflation busts thru the Bank of Canada's target range, now 3.2% (from 1.8% in Feb), with early signs petroleum prices are spilling over into other prices (CPI excl. gasoline rose to 2.2%). Nothing to do with supply, demand, or output costs in Canada. 100% due to war and oil. /2

I joined Deana Sumanac-Johnson on CBC News Channel yesterday to discuss GDP data and the 'technical' recession: cbc.ca/player/play/.... This one is as 'technical' as you can get: real GDP fell $900m (on a $3 trillion economy), mostly because of a quirky jump in gold imports. #cdnecon /2
