After the success of The Book Bag's first anthology Unwhispered Legacy, I've decided to give it another go and raise more vital funds for MSF. This time I am joined by Guest Editor Leia Butler. Full details in the link, submissions open throughout November.
The Book Bag: Anthology II – Concealed Revelations
Welcome. On the back of the success of Unwhispered Legacy, I thought it would be worthwhile to create a second PDF anthology, again raising much needed funds for Médecins Sans Frontières. This time, I am happy to announce that my guest editor is Leia Butler of Full House Literary. There are no rules on theme and form for this edition however it would be worthwhile for you to read…

Sad to hear about the passing of Wendell Berry. He brought so much tenderness and beauty into the world without shying away from its harshness.
RIP Wendell Berry 💜
would you like to attend four free poetry workshops? we’d love to invite you in October during our submission window. have a read here www.anteroompoetry.com/events
Happy #FragmentsFriday to all who celebrate! Have a ditty inspired by sea-glass hunting, and mudlarking, and making up stories. As always, thanks @matthewmcsmith.bsky.social @blackboughpoetry.bsky.social for hosting.
On Instagram, I wrote a whole mini-essay contextualising this poem (published today by @radicalcatalyst.bsky.social in their Perspectives on War & Violence themed issue). TL;DR - I have a complicated socio-political history which means I can never return to the place where I grew up.
So excited that my and my good friend, Betty Powdrill's, collaboration will be included in the next print issue of @shinepoetry.bsky.social Quarterly! Thanks, @samanthaterrell.bsky.social, for giving a platform to our work.
Friends, SHINE Quarterly, Issue 8 (the 2nd anniversary issue of our print anthology) is coming out very soon -- Friday, Sept. 4th! Work is included by co-authors Betty Powdrill & Ella B. Winters and many others. Stay tuned! #poetry #shinepoetry #poetrycommunity #internationalcommunity
Seems like a good day for a #coverreveal of SHINE Quarterly, Issue 8! Many thanks to the fine contributors in this issue, which will be available September 4th. Stay tuned for exclusive poem snippets between now and then! #poetry #poetrylovers #shinepoetry #poetrycommunity #internationalcommunity
This week's #FragmentsFriday is inspired by art, the weather and my impending 45th birthday. With thanks to @blackboughpoetry.bsky.social @matthewmcsmith.bsky.social, as always, for hosting.
We are back tomorrow! #fragmentsfriday Post your 18 word max impactful #poem on Twitter, Insta and Bluesky. Boost others and crank up the #poetic energy!
Hey kids, have you heard!? #FragmentsFriday is back. The heat may be melting the skin off my face, but we have poetry and birds, so it's not all bad. 🐦⬛ 🎶 @blackboughpoetry.bsky.social @matthewmcsmith.bsky.social
A mindful moment for our fractious time. Published recently in issue 4 of Abyss Lit.

ISSUE SEVEN OUT TOMORROW! THIS GAGGLE IS SO HONKIN' AMAZING! CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO DIVE IN, FLOCKERS 🪿🪿🪿
A special honour to have a small poem in this incredible anthology from Sunday Mornings at the River. Written last year in response to a stupid man calling Greta Thunberg an 'angry young woman'. Personally, I don't think it's the insult he thought it was. Angry young women might just save us all!
It's all a bit quiet on the acceptance front at the moment. Meanwhile, all the lined up publications seem to be coming out at once. Today, sharing this very personal poem that was published last week in the 'Shame/less' anthology by Echo Writers alongside loads of poets I admire.
A little conceptual piece published yesterday by the very cool Plague Circus Press.
Sometimes nothing is happening, and sometimes all the publications come out all at once. Pleased to have this poem included in Garden Party magazine's third issue, themed around 'Rituals'.
The good people at Forge Press also gave a home to this little poem, inspired by every dog I'd ever met. Figured it's a pretty good one to share for #SmallPoemSunday, what d'ya reckon, @tomsnarsky.bsky.social?
One of two poems I had published in the 'Mirage' themed summer issue of Forge Zine, published by the wonderful folk of Forge Press.
This week's #fragmentsfriday is inspired by Koberidze's film Dry Leaf – the idea of the self that never returns unchanged. Thank you @blackboughpoetry.bsky.social and @matthewmcsmith.bsky.social for hosting 🙏
In my mind, I do often return to our trip to Berlin, and especially visiting Sachsenhausen concentration camp. What else could I do but write a #FragmentsFriday about it, @blackboughpoetry.bsky.social @matthewmcsmith.bsky.social?
