I love the art of cinema too much to not love and in some cases prefer seeing a movie on a muddy-looking public-domain VHS tape or a dupey, vinegary 16mm print or a blood-red censored 35mm print that breaks in the projector.

There have been rumors swirling that I watch and like Barney the Dinosaur. These are malicious lies, fostered my enemies on the schoolyard. Barney is for babies. I'm not a baby.
Thinking yet again about how right Harpo and Chico were to terrorize this lemonade salesman. He was guilty of the worst crime of all, which is that he couldn't hang. He couldn't do bits.
Watched half of The Cocoanuts (1929) last night on Tubi. Everyone always says it's creaky and static, but I'm telling you it really opens up after you've got your PhD in Robert Florey auteurism studies.
Every DVD menu should have a Jackie Chan
Do you even realize that it's the 20th anniversary of a seismic event in the history of film culture, the episode of Ebert & Roeper guest-hosted by Jay Leno?
I put on Werner Herzog's volcano movie Into the Inferno (the one where he goes to North Korea) last night, and I gotta say, the North Korean subways look heavenly. There are no ads anywhere! The country's omnipresent political art is terrible, but not much worse than America's.
I wrote this short appreciation of the odd Bob Dylan film Masked and Anonymous, playing tonight in NYC www.screenslate.com/articles/mas...
Masked and Anonymous
In Martin Scorsese’s documentary No Direction Home (2005), Joan Baez says of her onetime paramour Bob Dylan, “Thirty some years, whenever I go to a march, sit-in, or lie-in, or jail-in, people always ...

RIP director Chuck Russell. He gave us John Saxon fighting a claymation skeleton in Nightmare on Elm Street 3, among many other wondrous sights.
A must-attend for all Edmontonians
The River City Reels film series concludes tomorrow night with the Edmonton theatrical premiere of Don’t Let the Riverbeast Get You! Metro Cinema @ the Garneau Theatre, 9:30 PM. Beautiful poster design courtesy @ms.kittyclawz H/T @willsloanesq.bsky.social for bringing this film to my attention.
The name you know. The story you don't. Before he was Scrooge, he was... EBENEEZER. Only in theatres Thanksgiving. #Ebeneezer
Saw a little boy, no more than five years old, crying on a street corner today. I asked him what's the matter. He asked, Is it true? Is it true that Jim Goad is gone forever? I didn't know what to say. How do you explain mortality to a child? I helped him find his way back home.
Avengers trailer. How can you be a fan of this stuff and see Patrick Stewart brought back from the dead for like the 12th time and not feel like just a complete sucker?
The most thriving enclave in the world is easily Manhattan's Little Italy. Whenever I'm there, I always feel like I'm in Sicily. From Gabagool's Traditional Authentic Eye-talian Ristorante to the five stores that sell "I ❤️ NY" t-shirts, there's so much community in that entire half-block radius.
The sound of Clive Owen's voice yelling "DID HE CUM ON YOUR FACE???" in the movie Closer (Mike Nichols, 2004) has been rattling around in my head now for over 20 years.
When I was a kid I had an Entertainment Weekly from 1999 that ranked the 100 Best TV Shows of All Time. I kinda miss the pre-Prestige TV canon. It was The Dick Van Dyke Show, All in the Family, MASH, Monty Python, Johnny Carson... I think Beverly Hillbillies even made the list.
I'm not really a fan of Christopher Nolan's movies but I like him as a person because he appears to have Winner's Mindset.
Thinking yet again of Robert Wuhl's immortal "He must have been... King of the Wicker People!" crack from Batman (1989)
Magdalene Visaggio was once in seminary, training to become a Catholic priest. Now she's a snarky online trans girl like the rest of us. In a challenging new essay for Assigned, she writes about the toll being hated for who she is has taken on her psyche. assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...

My most problematic opinion is that I think David A.R. White from the God's Not Dead movies seems like he might be a good hang if we kept the conversation off politics.
I've been keeping an eye on the box office. Every week there's a movie that loses $200 million, but it's ok because money isn't real anymore.
Glad to have watched the Digger trailer. Saves me a lot of time. I got the gist.
Happy heavenly 117th birthday to Curly-Joe DeRita. This is my tribute to the great man from The Journal of Stoogeological Studies Vol. 2
