"If you think it is bad that Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and a handful of their billionaire buddies are effectively unconstrained, then the most effective thing you can do is pick a fight over data center siting in your area." by @davekarpf.bsky.social
The data center backlash Is working. That's why the New York Times is so concerned.

The paperback of Invisible Rulers is out today! To celebrate I dropped audio of the Twitter Space where Mike Benz first groomed Matt Taibbi into believing there'd been "mass censorship" of "hundreds of millions of tweets"—something he'd then testify before Congress. open.substack.com/pub/agentsof...
When Matt Taibbi Met Mike Benz
How independent media turned an obscure political operative into a "whistleblower"—and his claims into government action.

Personally I would love to see Bluesky expand. It shouldn’t just be the app for leftists who can’t stand Matt Yglesias! It should also be the app for liberals who can’t stand Matt Yglesias. And apolitical folks who can’t stand Yglesias. And, yes, even conservatives who can’t stand Matt Yglesias!
Folks I won’t tell you not to feel your feelings, but this is rage bait. He’s talking about expanding beyond politics into things like live sports.
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
Good lord I wish some of you could read on this text based social media website.

I see a lot of you talking about "dopamine" and I wish you'd go back to talking about your astrological signs because at least then you wouldn't be confusing yourself about a real thing
Still can’t over the fact that the president of the United States just told an entire state to pound sand after getting cyberattacked by a foreign adversary because they didn’t vote for him and it was treated like a Tuesday lol
A lot of people are interpreting this tweet as showing that Sam Altman is bad at parenting. But that’s unfair. He is equally bad at literally everything else in life.

There’s also something to how women are socialized to be suspicious of flattery — it’s how we transfer responsibility for men’s desire onto women’s bodies; we are taught to defend against that in service to our “innocence” or whatever — whereas men accept flattery as their due. Perfect marks.

Hi guys, I'm sorry to have to ask for this again but I really could use your support. My father died recently and now I have fallen behind on rent. If you could please chip in a few dollars, it would really help me keep going. I need to raise $10,000 asap to pay expenses. Thank you so much ❤️

Are you saying the DOJ withdrew that pool vandalism indictment… upon reflection?
If this is what happens to a scientific field as a whole when LLMs dominate the workflows of researchers, I can only imagine that the outlook is even worse for any individual researcher who is soldiering on without using them. 😞
13. Hence our dismal conclusion: rather than finding that LLMs free us to do a better job of what we were doing before they came along, they shift scientific incentives (and the playing field of academic competition) in ways that compel us to do more and more, faster and faster, less and less well.
Question for people who have trained for a marathon before: do you eventually reach a point where you aren’t just alternating between (1) running and (2) exhausted from running?
I remember seeing someone (very reasonably) complaining here a few days ago that there seems to be next to no visible thinking on left and center about how to join the dots on administration and democracy. This is the beginnings of an answer to that complaint donmoynihan.substack.com/p/rebuilding...
