It's very annoying when there's no middle ground for a category of products. I would like a wet food dispenser for Tiamat, so she gets her lunch on time if I am out. I can either get a very basic one or a fully automatic self-cooling electric one. I just want it to stay cool and work on a timer.

I don’t know when this started, but apparently I’ve decided that my cat Tiamat speaks Belter. Or at least the voice that I use to speak to her as the comedy belter accent you get for background extras in the Expanse.

Tiamat, a tuxedo cat, sat on a windowsill looking out to her right next to a dead plant in a decorative plant pot.

Supposedly the EU are going to be discussing PPWR alterations and amendments in October. What is the betting that they will fail to get anything out before Christmas, let alone in time for people to reopen shipping to the EU for Christmas.

There is some kind of event happening near my house playing music loud enough that I can hear it inside my house. Council: report nuisance noise with this web form, you must know the name of the company making the noise, we’ll respond in 3-5 working days. 101: we don’t deal with noise, soz.

I have nearly finished reading We are legion (We are Bob) after being recommended it by many people, and I have some real concerns. Looking for reviews to see if I'm the outlier, it's weird that several of these describe the book as being one of the first fiction books the reviewer ever read, right?

Whilst I think the emergency alert was too long and too poorly written, I don’t think most people will have thought more about the fire risk than “it’s hot let’s have a barbecue” and we are certainly at the “don’t start a fire for any reason outside” point of the extended drought.

LOADS of options to mix and match the newly remastered Mud Brick range acquired from @fogoumodels.bsky.social - stackable, swappable, and with additional frontages and addons. adding these to the shop this week, and hopefully having a few in hand for Salute in (gulp) three weeks' time...

I think the thing that is pissing me off the most about PPWR is how every organisation that might be in a place to help small businesses is just holding up its hands and going "oh no too hard have you considered just not?" What do you do when even the orgs meant to help go "nah, not worth it"?

Buy a colour LED printer. I've had a lexmark for five years. It's still on the original toner. It's complaining it's running out, but "out of toner" apparently means several hundred pages remaining. It sits on my wifi, and it prints for me, and it doesn't complain.

Given my PPWR doom posting I feel obligated to repost this, with the slight clarification that this is referring to transport packaging not sales packaging (unless there’s another bit I’ve missed) but still provides a vital lifeline to EU based small businesses.

Okay I broke my promise about no longer posting about PPWR/EPR...but good news! The official FAQ was updated with a flowchart that confirms us small EU-based artists are NOT liable as producers. FAQ here: environment.ec.europa.eu/publications...

A flow chart showing information on transport packaging. The first step is Company A manufactures unbranded cardboard boxes for transport (mailing). Then arrows go to four options, which all means Company A remains the responsible producer. The options are: Sells to end user (customer) in another member state, sells to end user in the same member state, sells to Company B (i.e. a self-employed artist or small business) in the same member state, or the cardboard boxes carry the name or trademark of Company B located in the same member, but company B is a micro-enterprise. Company B is shown to only be the producer if they have trademarked packages and they are not a micro-enterprise (i.e. Amazon).

Did you know that metas glasses have a new contact free cleaning layer on the camera lenses? It is recommended that you shine a laser pointer across the lens surface at least once a week to keep your images clear and sharp.

Can't sleep so did some maths. I've been working to lose weight for about two months now, and I've logged twice a week using body composition scales and it's been nice seeing it pay off, but the fat/muscle/water readings are in percentages not kgs and so I wondered what that actually looked like.

This is the final PPWR posting from me (I hope, today at least) but dear reader, the government promised to produce guidance for UK exporters "in good time" for the Entry Into Force date so that UK exporters could understand their obligations. They come into force on Wednesday. There is no guidance

28. When can we expect finalised UK guidance to be published?
Guidance will be published in good time to ensure compliance. We are working to finalise
timelines and will provide further information following publication of the implementing
act.

I have slept on this and done a little bit more reading this morning, and I wish I had a better feeling about this. It feels like your three options are: 1) give up on the EU as a market 2) buy only EU unbranded packaging and hope that you evade the regs 3) ignore it and hope you don’t get caught

I had mistakenly filed away the EU PPWR regulations on packaging as a thing for 2030, with the false hope that there'd be some one stop shop solution or carveouts for micro-enterprises. No, it comes into effect on Wednesday. You need to register in every EU country. The fines are staggering.
