executive director at a #pedestrian advocacy org (WalkMassachusetts - previously known as WalkBoston), grew up in S.Jersey (Go #Phillies!), went to college in MA (#HolyCross), live in Framingham. I used to run fast, now I run sometimes for fun.

WalkMass joined Safe Streets Needham today for a community-led walk audit of Needham’s downtown. A big thank-you to Aidan and everyone who helped organize it! It was especially valuable to explore quick-build ideas with community members eager to see safety improvements soon.

Participants talking during the walk audit in Needham today Historical Needham Bank clock over participants discuss discussing walkability in Needham Participants looking at an intersection that has been challenging in the past and has had recent quick build interventions added. Participants are wondering if this can be done in other areas of town.

New leader for most useless sign & placement: a neon pedestrian sign not near a crosswalk (Maybe it was to alert drivers to parklet? Closest crosswalk was at least 4 storefronts away) paired with a no u turn sign, in the middle of a sidewalk, blocked from street by dine local / shop local banners.

No U-turn sign on a pole directly in the middle of a sidewalk. There is a neon pedestrian sign above it. The signs from the previous image are completely blocked from the street by a “dine local shop local needham” banner

This is devastating. Louisa was everything you could ask of a colleague and a human being -- smart, committed, hardworking, and, above all, kind and compassionate. I am heartbroken for her family and for the many people who have lost a beloved friend and colleague today.

A cycling advocate and transportation planner for the city of Boston was identified as the cyclist who was struck and killed in a crash near Roxbury Crossing this morning.

My experience as a year-round outdoor runner (and dog owner) in greater Boston this winter taught me one thing: Virtually every city and town did not shovel out intermediary pedestrian islands. Those tiny, critical bits of infrastructure that keep us safe crossing extra-wide streets: all untouched

"Snow isn’t just an inconvenience. It becomes a barrier to safety and mobility in daily life." The city has clearly made, and continues to make, progress in this area, and that's important to acknowledge. But huge barriers remain. Accessibility can't be weather-dependent.

[SINGING IN A NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGE] They knew the program was going to include Andrea Bocelli singing in Italian and that’s the best NBC can do with captions? Doesn’t bode well for NBC’s Super Bowl halftime show.

Olympics torch being passed by Italian athletes at the opening ceremony in Italy. Andrea Bocelli is singing. Caption reads: singing in a non-English language
