"To lose her on a morning commute at an intersection the city has explicitly documented as dangerous for years is just an unmitigated tragedy, a systemic failure." Deaths like Louisa's occur because our leaders prioritize the convenience of drivers over the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
‘Systemic failure’: Crash that killed Boston transit planner sparks furor over road safety efforts - The Boston Globe
Residents and public officials alike have been concerned about pedestrian and cyclist safety on the stretch of Tremont Street in Mission Hill near Parker Street for years.

This is devastating. Louisa was everything you could ask of a colleague and a human being -- smart, committed, hardworking, and, above all, kind and compassionate. I am heartbroken for her family and for the many people who have lost a beloved friend and colleague today.
A cycling advocate and transportation planner for the city of Boston was identified as the cyclist who was struck and killed in a crash near Roxbury Crossing this morning.
Happy to finally publish this! Many object to automated enforcement legislation on privacy grounds, and invoke the ACLU's name. But those same people seem perfectly fine with dragnet surveillance of motorists conducted by license plate readers. Make it make sense. www.aclum.org/news/were-pr...
We’re privacy hawks. Here’s why we’re alarmed by license plate readers — and not necessarily by speed cameras - ACLU of Massachusetts
When properly regulated, speed cameras don't pose the same threats to privacy as license-plate-reader surveillance

For a decade, SFMTA's #1 legislative priority was legalizing speed safety cameras, because they're best tool for cutting traffic violence. How are they working? 🧵
Oakland just flipped the switch on 18 speed cameras — while San Francisco is already seeing results and Los Angeles is still stuck in neutral. 🚦📸 Oakland is moving. SF shows it works. LA… not so much. #Oakland #SpeedCameras #StreetSafety #VisionZero #Transportation #Streetsblog #SafeStreets

Such a powerful video from @boston.gov and @streets.boston.gov about the impact of e-bikes (and the city's e-bike voucher program). Just look at the joy these bikes have brought to Steven and Muriel Leonard!
Boston will not back down from who we are and what we stand for.
Last week, Boston received a letter from AG Bondi threatening to prosecute officials and withhold funds unless we cooperate with carrying out mass deportations. The US Attorney General asked for a response by today, so here it is: stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures.
Arriving soon: a more frequent T, extended weekend service, and a month of fare-free T across all lines on weekend nights! Plus buses arriving every 15 minutes for some of our most popular routes, including the always-free 23 & 28 bus 🙌

Let us pay tribute to the speed hump, an unsung hero of street safety. These prosaic protrusions of pavement can work wonders -- and at minimal cost. My deep dive, in Bloomberg 🧵
All Hail the Humble Speed Hump
These simple, cheap traffic-calming devices are both effective and wildly popular with (most) residents. Here’s why more cities are going all-in on speed humps.

In addition to the climate and economic benefits, this will help reign in the extraordinary damage that large-scale gas pipeline replacement does to city streets.
Big climate news from Massachusetts: The state just overhauled a program that gives gas utilities extra financial incentive to repair/replace leaky natural gas pipelines Since it's inception, the program has cost $6.2B and now accounts for 8-11% of monthly utility bills www.wbur.org/news/2025/05...
Today, I ended a long streak. May 26th, 2012 - March 19th, 2025 I was fortunate enough to get an ebike voucher from @boston.gov last year, but with surgeries and cancer in the way, I thought I'd lose it. But they gave me an extension! Today, I began to ride again for the first time since 2012!
