Alright, I'm skipping part 2 for Theo and Leda, I can't keep doing this. I hope the game gets fun again in part 3...
Something I find very charming about the way Fire Emblem abstracts combat is how, depending on context, the same battle mechanics can be used to represent six people fighting in a room, or hundreds of soldiers on an open plain.
"Beach episode!!!" But we're in the Pacific Northwest, so instead of sunshine and bikinis, we've got clouds, ennui and the constant feeling that a ghost ship is about to sail into view. (This is still sexy fanservice)
To this day, I have not played a Fire Emblem that nailed it's Act 2 Darkest Hour anywhere near as well as Awakening. The map where you retreat through the rain after *the thing* happens is so iconic and poignant, and it has not yet been replicated.
They* are going to kill me with hammers.** *Unclear. My students? Coworkers? Supervisors? **I used one (1) day of paid sick leave, which is a clearly stipulated benefit in my employment contract.
#fefwspoilers I know some people would hate it, but imagine if after Theo's realization of "Huh. Maybe I *do* want to get married someday," in Part 1, she was just already married to some random person in Part 2. Like a Chrom x Peasant Girl situation. I would have kind of loved that.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Part 1 might be my new favorite FE game. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Part 2 might be my new least favorite FE game. I guess we'll see how I feel about Part 3.
The choice to voice act Talimun as if he's somewhere between a 60s game show host and Johnny Bravo is inspired and honestly goes a long way towards how much I like his character
These part two maps are pissing me off unfortunately
I have now beaten all of the Part One stories for Fortune's Weave! All are good, I think Cai's was the best, but it's a close race with Theo and Diet. Now to clear Part Two...
this isn't very accurate but I had to get her outta my system
*grown adult voice* I've stocked up on various soups, chowders and gumboes
It always makes me feel strange when I'm playing a game, and reach a point where I don't really want the character I'm controlling to succeed 😅
I had this complaint about Three Houses too, but I find it constantly distracting that Fortune's Weave has big, prominent, animated portraits, AND big, prominent, well-animated 3D models in the same scenes constantly. I can never pick between looking at the character models or their portraits...
I'm old enough to remember smoking on airplanes as a child. I hated it but they made you do it.
It's a bit subtle, but I just realized Olympia's default costume has a variation of the war cleric cage skirt! Very cool

Something I've realized about my taste in games is that I want video games to be SLOW. Give me time to think about it. Make me wait. Turn me loose in a big area and give me all the time in the world to explore, with very little to rush me. Almost all of my favorite games are this way.
